We are looking at buying a Gas BBQ to take away with us on our hols wondered if anyone had any recomendations . Obviously needs to be portable have looked at Weber Q100 has anyone used this ?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
2 options spring to mind. The cheap "shoe box" type for about £15 or a cadac. Both have their advantages. The cheap ones work very well and even come with lava rock included which if bought separately costs almost as much as the barbecue itself. We have had a few and after a year or two, the paint discolours a bit. However, at this price, if you get a year or two out ot it then it's been good value.
We bought a cadac last year and find it very convenient and easy to use. However, it was also a lot more expensive and I'm not really convinced worth the extra.
We have used the Carri Chef Deluxe for about 3 years. It is very versatile, and the separate components make for easy stowage throughout the van. Part from conventional BBQ's, it allows alfresco cooking across a wide range of dishes.
We have a Q100 and love it. It is excellent quality and produces great results. If we didn't already have a large gas bbq at home I'm sure my OH would use at home as well. We use it with the small disposable gas cylinders which means we don't need to carry a second large cylinder. They last for a couple of weeks at least with daily use. It is big enough for 4 of us and tucks away under the caravan when not in use. We have the trolley for it, which is very useful but has to travel in the caravan as it rattles too much in the car!
hello we got a great BBQ in asda for £30 its just the right size for caravaning, and easy on gas! cheap and cheerful, just today saw a simalier one in homebase on sale at £22... hard to beat!
I love my cadac eazi chef and cook everything on it - it is rather bulky tho - so I have now bought the safari chef. It came during the week and is much more compact and all fits into the one bag. It is getting an airing today - roast chicken so will review when done!
Fariy power spray does the job, the grill easily fits in the washing up area sinks as well (it's not allowed in the caravan!). The lid just needs an occasional wipe round and the foil drip tray has a quick rinse, the first foil tray lasted over a year!
The other thing we really like about the Q100 is that when not in use it sits on the folded trolly under the caravan.
Have seen a few places (local garden centre etc) with offers on them to include an accessory such as the travel bag or cover. We have the bag with wheels which is useful but I wouldn't have paid £50 for it.
Somewhat related to this post - I have just bought a gas BBQ from Homebase at seemingly silly knock-down price (standby for horror stories from previous buyers) although I knew it comes with a regulator for use with BP cylinders that Homebase sell. I need to connect to my spare Calor lite 6kg and use it standalone. Will a basic Calor-compatible propane regulator (£5-6) do that job?
Why do Calor stipulate their Patio Gas range for use with their own BBQs? Their 'help' web pages are poor and only describe how to screw and unscrew fittings - nothing on what fits what!
Cadac without a doubt. From steaks and barbecued ribs burgers, bangers, to full cooked breakfasts, to roast pork and roast chicken, to paella and stir frys, this really is the best bit of kit we have bought.
Cadac for me too, I have tried various others over the years but they haven't come close to the Cadac Carri Chef. Spares are readilly available too so prolongs its working life indefinately.

Yup the red propane regulator is fine. We use it with gas hose and a Cadac connector on our spare Calor Lite gas bottle for the Cadac. Means you can move the Cadac about and are not restricted to the outside bbq point. Good for avoiding wind etc.
