Met up with someone recently who I have not seen since we left school in 1985. Got chatting and realised that we are both Caravanners.
She said that they never go far and like it that way. Always within 50 miles.
Me I consider my self middle of the road. Usually no more that 150 miles for a bank holiday weekend (often as close as 10 miles) and until now the furthest we have gone is Scotland (550 miles) or Cornwall (300 miles). Next month we have a trip to the alps planned (830 miles).
There are some that travel down to Morrocco (hardcore).
We all use our vans differently, how far do you go.

Like Bev+Jon, we tend to stick within 100 miles for a weekend, though would only consider 200 miles max for a week and up to 1,000 miles for a main summer holiday.

I'm a novice to towing, and I'm going out in ever increasing circles. The first time was 60 miles (for a long weekend), the second was 160 miles (for a week's holiday). Double those figures for the return journey, that's just one way.
My next trip doesn't count, 60 miles again to a festival in August, then after that, a 200 miles trip down South for a meet up with some friends.
I went to the Outer Hebrides in my campervan before I sold it, a round trip of around 1,000 miles not including sea miles!

The south of france is as far as we have been but sometimes go within 40miles for a weekend. I think its great just to be away sometimes, however close to home.

When OH was working, our longest trips were 6 weeks, we went to the far south of Italy on one (2003), and to just inside the Arctic Circle (where we are now) on another (1999). We were also here twice in the 70s/80s.
On a normal 3 week trip we only went as far as Austria.
In UK we were right to Land's End, and, going north, up to Orkney (home is Glasgow).
In 2007, when OH retired, we went all the way to Nordkapp, which is a few hundred miles further north/east than here. (6349 caravan miles)
On this trip, we have so far driven 6000 miles (but the caravan has of course not gone nearly as far, only 2655 miles), and we still have to get home again!! We will be away 120 days, so plenty of time for long distances.
Last year we were around France (3566 caravan miles), venturing as far as the Med. Next year we are considering Switzerland.
Our shortest trip was a long weekend in Aberdeen.

Went down to Rome a few years ago. 'Bout 1400 miles I think. We did 3200-ish for the trip I seem to recall.

We never go less than 50 miles, rarely go for less than 5nights at a time, (as were retired and like to get out for as long as possible), but tend to travel on average around 140miles to a site, and keep to a few firm favourites, and would certainly draw the line at 175 miles radius for towing any single journey in a day.
We just cannot see the point in making yourself tired out, simply by driving a long distance before you can start your holiday, and us being Midlands based, does give us the option of most of Britains coastlines, and some super places to visit within easy reach, and within our mileage limits.

On tour on our main holidays we are usually towing 1200 miles. That used to be done over 2 weeks but now that we are retired, it is usually over 4 weeks. There is ofcourse solo touring round about each site and we are not moving on every da and therefore our combined mileage will be in excess of 2000.
We never drive, either towing or solo, more than 3 hours per day so at an average of 50mph, we never travel more than 150 miles. I like to plan my journeys so that I drive for an hour, stop for 30 minutes to walk the dogs then drive for another hour before stopping for an hour for lunch and dog walkies. Then it is a final hour before staying overnight. This gives us ample time to explore each new place and decide whether we are staying a while or moving on the next day.
All our holidays, be they be weekends or main trips, are worked out on this basis.
Checking on Autoroute, the closest we have stayed to home was at Luss on Loch Lomond, 23 miles away but that was to meet up with friends who were heading north.
The closest we have stayed for a weekend away was at Gartmore near Aberfoyle and that was 42 miles away.
Our van is built to tour with so towing it, especially on narrow or single track roads is a doddle. I doubt if I would be so keen on exploring if I was towing a normal sized caravan.

I don't recollect ever having stayed on a touring site within 50 miles of home. We have rarely gone away for periods as short as a weekend or even a long weekend - maybe only a handful of times in the last 10 years.
If memory serves, last year we did something in excess of 2000 miles in total. The longest trip was to Clachtoll in Sutherland (from Oldham).
This year, we've been to Cruachan Farm near Killin (550m round trip) and Kielder at the end of May (320 miles round trip). In August (starting next Sunday), we are going to Ardgarten, Musadale and Resipole Farm on Loch Sunart - a round trip of about 840 miles or so. So ... this year will be around 1710 miles or so, if we don't go away in the autumn.
We try never to do more than 300 miles in a day but often do over 200.

Actually I find that towing is the least tiring mode of transport of all. When I'm tired, especially on long continental trips, we simply stop and have a sleep for half-hour or so. I find this totally revives me (I'm the only driver) and I can drive well into the evening even after an early start. I wouldn't dream of driving when tired.
Doing this when solo though is just not feasible for me and I certainly can't sleep on trains and planes.
I have to say that we have rarely done weekend trips - it never seems worth the bother but everyone's needs are different of course.

6 miles is our closest, but to be honest we could have been anywhere.
Various people within the party were working at different time sover the weekend, but we were still able to sit around enjoying the evening sun having a bbq and a drink or eight.
