Hi - looking at buying a caravan and have seen lots we have liked the look of but some have had cookers and some have only had the hob - is a cooker really any good in a caravan? Many thanks
We always use a halogen oven, the slow cooker or a BBQ. Haven't used the caravan cooker yet... never used a gas cooker before and don't feel confident enough not to ruin what I intend to cook. So it stays clean and unused
Our first van (which we had for 20 years) only had a 2-burner hob and a grill, but we still managed to have all sorts of meals, upto and including sunday dinner with a joint of beef with potatoes and veg etc.
If you read and learn how to use to its full potential the old-style pressure cooker can and will do all sorts of meals that you would not have thought possible without an oven - and that's what we used and still use on occasion, although our current van has a gas oven and a microwave...

It's nice to be important but its more important to be nice
Our cooker has only been used a couple of times as we tend to use the George Foreman for most things. Plus better to use the sites electric you are paying for rather than your gas. Even gave up BBQing as the GF is so handy - even cooks food from frozen.

My van only has a two ring stove - not even a grill! I manage fine without a grill and an oven. I have a three tier steamer which cooks lovely meals, a little grill thingy which sits on top of a gas ring for toast, and my latest aquisition is a Double Skillet, which is a dry oven operated on a low gas ring. Never missed either grill or oven.
My first van had an oven & it was rubbish it took ages to cook anything whereas my oven at home would cook it up in no time. I've only got a grill & 2 ring hob in my present van & I get along fine with it.
If it's there you will use it. If not then you'll do meals that don't need cooking in an oven. I find having an oven very usefull on the 1st night as i take pizza's for our 1st meal. If i didn't have one it would be beans on toast.
We also have a microwave which we didn't used to have but now i have one i use it :)
Having a (microwave and) oven is useful but you could live without them when away :)
I have an oven in mine and its great, very reliable. . I bought an extra shelf for it as it only had the one shelf.
. Asda's design your own pizza is our friday night meal , or the kfc style frozen chicken selection from tesco. When we go for longer than a weekend I intend to cook a full roast dinner.
a previous van we had , had an oven that was too small to be of any use for a family, but this one is a good size.
I have taken the microwave out of the van, as I found it was taking up too much space and weight and not being used much.
We specifically bought our van without an oven even though it had the option. We agreed that it would take up a large amount of space and not be used very often, and it's proved to be the right decision for us. I guess it depends how you use your van but if you've come from a trailer tent like we did, you're used to not having one anyway. We use a Remoska from Lakeland, fantastic little table top cooker from Czech that copes with all the cooking we want to do in conjunction with a 3-ring hob.
Ours has an oven, and its gets used. Also got an extra shelf. We opted not to have a microwave (being a midget alot of these were a liability for me!). Oven gets used more in autumn /winter I find, and now we have a cadac we cook outdoors when we can.
We have a cooker a really really nice one looks right swanky, have I used it? No because I hate cleaning the oven at home lol , I use the hob, but for cooking we use our cadac and cook outdoors.
