Has anybody ever had any experience with refurbishing caravan shower rooms?  My shower is currently the standard wallpapered 'wetroom' affair with cassette toilet.  Suspended from the ceiling is an wrap-around (guaranteed to stick to you) shower curtain.

My thoughts were to line the walls with some kind of pvc board or cladding sold for bathrooms.  Then, in theory, I should be able to get rid of wrap-around shower curtain and replace with just a small curtain across the door (perhaps with velcro on bottom corners to hold in place).  I'm thinking it won't hurt if the toilet gets wet while showering?  I would wipe down room after anyhow.

I might add, that I would replace the shower tray at the same time due to deterioration and even perhaps upgrade the waste pipe to a larger bore (currently 20mm).

Obviously I understand that all boards with need throughly sealing with bathroom sealant.  I thought perhaps there may be a condensation problem, but can't see why it would be any more prone than the current setup.  Presumably there is already a polystyrene insulation in the caravan wall?

Any thoughts or advice, or even names of suppliers of wallboard or showertrays would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Mark

This is our shower cubicle:

It is standard wall ply and wall board which has then been lined with Trovidur EN PVC sheet which is 1mm thick. I used Tigerseal (a sikaflex 512 equivalent) to stick the sheeting to the walls, the corner cappings have been sealed with a good quality silicon sealant (not a cheap B&Q or Screwfix one)

Cost of the Trovidur EN PVC sheet is around £15 - £20 for a 2 metre by 1 metre sheet and the corner, joining and edging strips around £3 per 2.4 metre length

Thanks cambridgecockne and RuneCaster.

I've just been taking out my shower tray this evening and as expected, it craked, so a new one is on the cards.  Have found a suitable universal one at about £50 including carriage.

The Trovidur EN PVC sheet looks interesting.  I'm assuming this is a rigid sheet?  Any ideas of suppliers?  I've just done a quick google and first site listed was australian!

I'm guessing I'll probably have to remove the cabinet and vanity unit (fold up sink sort above toilet) in order to line the walls fully.  The cubicle pictured is just the kind of look I'm trying to achieve, minus the posh chrome shower.  I'll have to make do with my current whale one, although I'm on the lookout for something to use as a cowl for the mixer tap, as my current one covers half the wall - not in keeping with the clean lines I'm after!

Thanks for your input so far.

Mark

It is as rigid as 1mm thickness will allow - Try this number: 01489 787 011 - I'm not sure if the company will sell direct to the public but the branch is in Southampton - if you get problems or if it is dearer than what I said above let me know and I should be able to sort something out for you (email address in my sig).

The posh chrome shower: valve hose and shower head can be obtained from eBay for around £60 the riser rail for around a tenner from a cheap DIY outlet - put the tap through the wall into the wardrobe (which I'm assuming is on one side of your shower room)

thanks rune.

I'm only up the road from hedge end/southampton, so well worth a try.

My wardrobe is indeed next to the shower, and I had already thought of that as a possibility.  Chrome shower may even be an option at that price!

Thanks again

Mark

Glad to be of service, Jeff! Would be interested to hear how he intends to go about it, with lining walls, etc.  Liking the sound (and look) of runes PVC.  Any ideas or thoughts of possible pitfalls welcomed.

Have taken a look at your website, rune.  Would be interested to see your renovation pics when you've had a chance to upload. It looks a great 'van.  Did you line the whole wash room or just a shower cubicle?  I wonder if it would be possible for me to find a bifold shower screen to cover my toilet door - would love to get away from the shower curtain completely!

Has anyone any thoughts on how my thetford cassette toilet will fare with the shower running over it?  I'm concered water may find it's way through to the compartment where the cassette goes in.  It doesn't appear to be sealed, but for all i know, may well be designed to handle water running over it?

btw, loving the JRT, Jeff!

Mark - keep going back the intention is to record the whole process, which incidentally is not finished yet (that's Tabbytha as well as the site ) we have well over a thousand photos of the whole renovation as it stands now.

We haven't lined the whole wash room/toilet although we will be using the Trovidur as a splash back behind the basin (still to be fitted). The bi-fold again came from eBay for the enormous sum of £10 - but I did have to cut it down to fit on the width.

Your Thetford toilet is designed to get wet - hence the toilet roll holder (if you have the electric version) to keep your toilet roll dry. Just seal the edges into the sheet with a good quality silicon mastic - I paid around £7 for the stuff I used and sourced it from a tile warehouse ( they had some for £12 as well but we couldn't work out the reason for the difference in price). Incidentally the cheaper ones from the DIY houses are full of filler - normally chalk - and don't stick very well at all or for very long if they do.

Boy have you got some uploading to do!

I hadn't thought of cutting a bifold down - sounds like a challenge!

Thanks for reassurance re thetford - I hadn't thought of the loo roll holder, although I have the manual model. Will ensure it's sealed properly to the walls.  I think I'm going to have to remove the vanity sink and unit above so I can run pvc lining beside them and then refit and seal to each other/walls. Do you think it's would be a good idea to line the ceiling in the same material? Don't have much headheight, so it's bound to get splashed.

Off to eBay for a screen!  Will keep checking ur website in eager anticipation.

Hello,
I am a total novice. Bought my 'van last week. Advertised as an 'immaculate' Bessacarr Cameo 440 I have found that the shower tray is damaged and needs replacing. The one I have found on Ebay to fit with the Thetford C400 toilet is too big at 1050 x 670 overall. My Bessacarr Cameo 440 measurements are 680 x 900 overall. Can anyone advise were to get one that would fit please? I have had a surf around without success.

The previous postings are very useful as I have some rather odd wallpaper on the walls of the cubicle which I plan to change.

I found the best bet for shower trays is ebay.  The one I've found to suit is a universal one that will need to be cut down slightly.  As long as the recessed part of the tray is suitable for the available floor area and it has enough surround to cover the ramaining, you should be fine.

The shower tray to fit with the Thetford C400 can be cut down to the size you need, and will also fit the earlier C4 type toilets as well
