has any one stayed at a CL or CS site for Christmas ?
this year at Christmas both the kids are doing there own thing, leaving us wrinkles all on our and we was wondering what it would be like to go to a CL or CS for Christmas.
and whether anyone out there has tried it.

we think it could be fun, your comments welcomed.

We have many times, this year we are going to a CL near Newby Bridge, south Lake District for 12 nights, with overnighters both ways. Going on 19th, back on 2nd January. I can recommend Thornleigh Park Farm near Chester.

Not been away for Christmas due to work patterns but have been away New Year for last 4 years or so. Last year we were on a Cl near Caldbeck in Lakes- was absolutely brilliant & are going again this year-staying for 10 nights this time tho'.

Mrs B. are you going to Old Barn Farm?

I am, have you been there? Which site did you stay on near Caldbeck? We thought of going to Scales near Berrier but think we will try it next Spring or Summer, don't want to be snowed in or unable to get there in the first place.

Yes we have been a couple of times its a good site, level.with big hardstandings & the couple who run it are really nice. No pubs particularly close for a meal, but Cartmel is only a few minutes drive, and has great pubs & pleasant individual shops. We are going there next Friday for 3 nights, not having been for a year or so. We stayed at Throstle Hall Farm in Caldbeck, well it's 10 mins walk from the village & that's where we are staying again this year, it's between Hesket Newmarket & Caldbeck, both being walkable of an evening, During the day you have the northern hills & Carlisle, Penrith & even the Borders to check out, so a good spot we return to regularly.

That's good to hear. Peter seems very nice from his emails; I asked him about pubs that do Christmas day lunch and he kindly emailed me some details. We normally eat in the caravan.

Been twice away in the van at Christmas, to Skegness on difererent CL's due to daughter working as a Redcoat at Butlins. It is quite an experience, and cooking a full Xmas lunch in the van is challenging but achievable, adds to the experience. We always get on hard standings and take an electric heater away with us. We also take a small xmas tree and put up lights around the van giving a more homely feel. This time its away over New Year and on a proper CC site. Go on try it you will enjoy it!

We always go away for Christmas and New Year.  Whilst we use CL s for our trips during the year, we do use Caravan Club sites at Christmas.  I am afraid I now like warm shower rooms and hard standing.  I am sure you will really enjoy it if you do go at Christmas. Give it a try !!!!!!!!

We use out South Caravan 'ALL' the year round including Christmas on a CL site,   IF you have not been caravaning before at that time of the year 'don't get caught out' and change any butane gas bottles to propane gas, we learnt the hard way 6 years ago when we had two nice full butane bottles both froze!

I also strongly suggest you invest in a water carrier jacket, forget the ones in the caravan shops they are too thin AND too pricey, get a domestic hot water cylinder jacket from the likes of B&Q, cheaper and 'much thicker' and covers everything!

Mike
