Chapter 2 of the Chronicles of Stealth.
The caravan failed to arrive on the day arranged and my wife phoned Dunster House and was told that no body had been told to deliver the caravan.
Although she was told that the caravan had just come back from the factory having had the mover fitted and was sitting in the yard. – You would have thought that it should have been noted somewhere what was to happen next without the customer having to chase it up.
She was told that the salesman was on holiday and he was blamed ! – true or not – don’t know !.
Arrangements were made for it to be delivered the following week which it was.
On inspection on delivery we saw that the mattress had been changed and the lip put on the shelf, but the chest top had not nor was their any extra dish racks fitted. The mark on the upholstery was also still there.
Again the salesman was blamed for these oversights.
The outside of the caravan was a mess but I put that down to the journey.
I also found that the steadies and the jockey wheel had not been greased – so after laying out over £18,000 I’m lying on my back with a grease gun !.
The following weekend we went to Perth for 4 nights,
The first thing we noticed was that we could see daylight through the hinged side of the door, The rubber seal was squashed out of shape.
The internal water pump was extremely noisy and I discovered that it had only 2 screws holding it down and not the 4 it should have and the damper unit was not engaged properly. I put in the other 2 screws – it is still noisy – blotting out the TV. The siren for the alarm was also lying loose and not screwed down – I can’t get at it. Makes you wonder what else has not been secured properly.
Also the tap operation has been put in haphazardly with the operation different for both sinks and the hot and cold indicators totally at odds with their operation.
The seating is higher than other makes but the freestanding table is the standard height so we couldn’t use it.
This made the chest table top essential. On folding it out we realised that because of its flush sided design there was no way to secure it in position. There was about an inch of movement which made eating or drinking hazardous. We have overcome this by using plastic spacer blocks which we have to put in the space at the front wall every time we open the top out.
We could also see why they had upgraded the kitchen storage - there was 1 rack for plates and nothing for cups or bottles.
So we had to go to Perthshire caravans to get the necessary racks !.
More to follow.
------------- Greetings from the frozen north !
