I've just got back from our storage yard today to find that not only has my jockey wheel been stolen but also the wheel arch too! What kind of scumbag rips off yor wheel arch? It's not just the cost but also the complete inconvenience of trying to source a replacement.
This is the third jockey wheel I've got to replace, as well as the arch and also a new lock from where they tried to break in last Christmas. Are thefts like this to be expected when you store vans these days?
It's a total pain to have to remove jockey wheel etc everytime you leave it but I guess this is what we'll have to do in future - just makes it a pain to go on a short trip if you have to rebuild the van before you go! Any tips on how you keep safe?
sounds like you might need to change storage sites, our storageyard has had a battery stollen and 2 vans from ours in about the last 10 years, lucky never our van though.

next one fit a rope lock to the jockey wheel at the base and onto the leg.use a good lock not a cheap one.just a thought you are not getting what you pay for, security have a word with the owners.ps.(wheel spat) is there another van on site like yours.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Just curious but is your storage a Cassoa approved caravan storage site?
Over in Leeds, earlier in the year, there were some thefts from secure storage sites. Again this was a theft of parts rather than the caravan.

It's not a gold site, its a compound (bit like a fenced in carpark) in the centre of Meridan. Had a look round and there were a few wheel arches gone so looks like someone needed one and decided to nick any that looked similar.
Thanks for all of your replys - looks like I'm on a dud site. Called around and may have found a new one. It's an extra 20min drive which is a bit of a pain for a weekend break but I suppose it's worth it to be safe. My annual fee is due at the end of Dec so either way I've got to get a move on and decide what to do.
Called the owner - he wasn't over concerned just offered me a crime number to use for the insurance (which was one from someone elses break in last week!!). Spoke to one poor guy who had had the whole kitchen stolen from his van a couple of months ago so I think I got off lightly! The site is full though so guess he has no incentive to improve things.
Thieving scumbags - just want to kill them!! You can't have anything nice these days
Perhaps he's full because he's cheap - I don't know. You need to consider any cost saving against the cost of new parts.
Securing the jockey wheel is easy on many vans - just take it off & put it inside.
The trouble with these things is when something goes missing some folks are inclined to just nick a replacement from another van.
The site should of course be secure & have cctv. Has yours? What does your insurance say about requiements for a storage site. Does it specify any requirements?
It's £5 per week - I guess that's pretty cheap. There seems to be a lack of local sites though. Called one today that has space but it's a 25 min each way journey which makes a weekend trip a bit of a mission.
