Can anyone recommend an overnight stop on or close to M5 south of Bristol where we could stop and get a couple of hours rest/sleep with the caravan hooked on?
Thanks

Sedgemoor beteen junction 25 and j22 going south is a good one with a dedicated caravan area, stop there every year for free 2 hour break. there is a charge for overnight, dont know how mutch it is though, if you decide to use it dont leave it to late, always fills up fast in the main holiday period

We stop at Sedgemoor for a couple of hours when on route south, ground is a bit rough in places just be careful to avoid any potholes. No doubt we will be stopping there again in June for a quick cuppa and a nap, with the alarm set for just under two hours.
We always stop over night at sedgemoor on route to the southwest, last time i think is was £16 which included breakfast if you want it. Other times though we havent paid, it depends if the man who collects the money is on duty. If he is he'll knock your door within minutes. Think we havent paid more than we have, Friday nights hes always on duty.
Don't know how far on from Bristol you want to go, but we always seem to stop at Taunton Deane on the M5. Last time we did this, we went in search of someone to pay the overnight fees, but no one seemed interested in taking our money!!! Stayed until 6 p.m. without paying a penny but the noise from some of the refrigerated lorries didn't really make for a peaceful night.
Don't know from personal experience as we've never stopped in a MSA for longer than two hours but I have heard of people getting sent a fine through the post afterwards by the parking company for staying over the two hours because they look at reg numbers via CCTV on the way in and the way out. Don't know if this is becoming more common. or even if it's true, but I would be a bit wary about not worrying about paying if I couldn't find the man.

It has happpened to a mate of mine in Michaelwood services, we normally only pull in for our statutory breaks but he had a bad migraine & pulled in for a sleep. He was there just over three & a half hours. There was plenty of empty parking bays in the lorry park so he wasn't in anyones way but he got a fine through the post, it told him he'd overstayed his welcome. He ingored it & it was increased. I can't remember how much it was but I'll ask him on monday if I remember.
I felt it was unfair to fine someone for parking longer than the free parking time when there's stacks of space available. Whether or not he informed them he was feeling ill I don't know but they've lost the plot IMO.
There is one in Congresbury just off of the M5 junction 21 which is about five minutes from the Motorway. I cant find a link for it, but could get you the details if needed.
We regularly call at Sedgemoor services north and southbound sides.
North bound caravan area is all tarmac hardstanding in good condition in all weathers, Access and egress can be a little tricky at busy times.
Southbound is horrendous, its like the surface of the moon! What was a hard gravel surface is now full of potholes that are impossible to avoid due to the number. Also large areas of standing water. Unless repairs are carried out in the next couple of months it is definately one to avoid!
When we go down to Somerset in the summer, we will need somewhere to park up and get some sleep as we will be leaving home on the Friday night. We have used Gordano services at Easter time a few years back and that was ok. For those who have used asda Wallmart, have you arrived around midnight and parked up til morning? Don't know if this is possible?
