You can put the caravan on the drive for loading/unloading for a day or two. Not permitted on a permanent basis. Tell the nosey neighbour to get a life and a caravan, it will transform him/her into a better human being! I have the same restriction here in Scotland and no issues. I have had the caravan on the drive for 4 days at one stage while cleaning etc after a season and prior to putting it back to the long term storage site.

Why not ring the builders who built the estate or your local council and check with them. (or do what we did and ring both to check you get a consistant answer!). Some covernants are only effective for a set number of years, some only until the last house on an estate is sold, some apply for as long as the house, or estate, exists and some are so badly written they aren't even worth the paper they are written on! Others only apply to the permanent siting of a caravan and not tempory siting for a few days for loading and unloading etc.

Ignore the neighbour and just do it. Nobody can fine you or arrest you. In our previous house we did have a covenant but nobody objected to us keeping it overnight to load up or clean.

As said above there are covenents in house deeds but they are often only put in while the estate is being built to stop it looking a mess when the finished houses are being sold.

Are the builders still in existance? If not it would cost a lot of money to take you to court by the local council. I am sure they wouldn't bother.

If you get a letter from somone threatening to take action then you can say you won't do it again or put up a fight. If nothing happens then you don't have a problem in the future.

Now if you decide to keep the van on the front then that is a different matter. We keep ours on the front but we asked the neighbours if they objected first. We don't have a covenent in our deeds.

The caravan is normally at my sisters 15 miles away and will stop there (cheaper storage for me i give her a grattitude payment ..siser rates lol ) so im only ever going to bring it back the day before i go away basically just to clean it out and load up ...this way i can make sure i take the right things with us and get the right weight in it and make sure every thing is packed properly .

Just do it, whatever covenant is in place the first thing that anyone who has the right to enforce the covenant ( the person who placed it there ) has to do is to ask you to remove it. Since by the time they can get round to it your van will already be gone the right to even ask for it to be reoved will also be gone.

To be honest only if the builders are still present on the site and still selling houses on the site is anyone who has the right to do anything is any action likely, so if the builders are not still on site you could park the van there for longer periods and still be fine.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

We have an ex council house and it also says No caravans..  We have had ours on the side of our small drive for 10 yrs,,  As the previous concensus of opinion seems to be"Just do it!! .. Don't worry!! hanging has been abolished and there are far more important things for local authorities to worry about than you...

My understanding is it's only enforceable by the builders not the council - that takes time and money and only matters to them when they are selling new houses on the estate. If they haven't sold them all after 11 years I'm thinking they must have gone bust!

Seriously it's not an issue just do it as others have said, you are only loading it not siting it there.

This sort of covenant can only be enforced by the covenator, who for private housing will presumably be the builder. Neighbours/local council cannot enforce them. If the builder is unwilling to bother to enforce the covenant or the building company no longer exists then nobody else can stop you parking your caravan permanently on your property.

I am told that the reason builders of new estates apply these covenants is to prevent caravans/boats/commercial vehicles making the estate look unsightly while the new properties are being sold. Once the estate is fully occupied the builder has no interest in these covenants & you can park what you like on your property.

Hi chishy, If the covenant states no caravans on the property, (I think one or two nights is alloud/packing/unpacking/cleaning) , it may only be refering to the front of property, and there may be nothing to stop you storing at side or rear of property, Have known some caravaners getting round this covenant by having a folding caravan,as the covenant allows for trailers, and they are classified as a trailer, If it bothers you, you could ask local council (or factor),explain to them what you want to do,and reason van has to be on drive( it is illegal to park a caravan on road over night without night lights) You could just ask as a general enquiry, say you are thinking about getting a caravan and ask what the position is regarding it, as has been said in posts above could be that covenant may no longer apply for your area, If no date to end covenant written in deeds then, that is usualy for all time. Just do as has been said bring it to home overnight, load/and unload. enjoy your trip.

Was a covenant on our property that stated 'Any wheeled vehicle forward of the building line'. I refused to sign the contract until it was deleted. They very promptly wrote it out.......Mick
