the cassette thing for our loo is leaking (no wonder it's been pongy) OH tried a mastic repair but unfortunately once the loo gets to a certain level of wee it leaks into the compartment you remove it from - as we discovered whilst away....
It's a Fiamma loo but probably quite old - the cravan is an old ABI, about 20 years old, though I can't swear it's the original loo we think it probably is. I've looked the internet but can only find either thecomplete loos for sale. Also, if you can buy just the cassette thing that the wee goes into will they all be the same size ????
Help please !

Im not sure about your brand of loo regarding spare parts, as the most popular make is Thetford, and to get a replacement cassette for one of those is around £100 new.
You maybe able to get a secondhand one cheaper from a breakers yard, but i know the feelings when it comes to dealing with secondhand toilets as i dont think i would fancy risking one myself as it too could be faulty once fixed, and you would have to deal with cleaning out someone elses loo, Yuk!
What make of caravan do you have? Perhaps a call to the local main dealer of the brand for some free advice as to whats still available part wise would be a step in the right direction to solving the problem. If its the holding tank itself which is cracked i dont think theres much else you can do but to replace it.

Just looked at the fiamma link above and it is only for a container to hold a spare toilet tank, which must mean you are able to purchase another toilet tank, but I have not found one as yet.

hi I had a similar problem with my thetford and it turned out that the seal between caravan and tank needed replacing as it had perished. Apparently they need replacing every so often and ours was probably 10 years old. Seal cost circa £15 and no more leaks! Might be worth checking. Good luck there is nothing worse than trying to clear it up on a sunny day on a campsite with no facilities- take it from me i know!

We replaced the seal on ours and bought the seal for £9.99 from somewhere near Stafford, I think it may have been Salop leisure.

Hi again. The seal may well need replacing too but the actual tank is definitely leaking - it's cracked I'm afraid, there was some epoxy resin stuck on the crack before OH tried the mastick.
OH is going to have a go with more epoxy resin though, not sure if the resin maybe degrades with time / acids in the wee / whatever ... ? Meantime though if anyone does find somewhere selling the Fiamma cassetes I'll be very grateful. Thanks for the replies so far anyway !
Romany girl it's an ABI caravan but I believe they no longer make tourers just statics, mind you they may be able to help all the same so might try contacting them thank you.

Hmmm the loo would normally be made by somebody like Thetford though? Any indication on it?

Sorry misread your post, I see you have identified it as a Fiamma.

I don't think I'd risk it. If you can't get a new tank I'd buy a new one - Lidl had some superb ones in their shops not long ago, may be some still for sale.

Jax wouldn't the Lidl ones just be the portable type though ? Thing is we don't want to have to cart a cassette full of wee through the caravan every time it needs emptying. If we really have to buy a whole new loo we'd want one that you access the cassette via the little compartment accessed outside of the van.

Epoxy glue ain't that good on some plastics. Try some Egaweld from a plumbing shop. its used for gluing plastic conduit pipe. Otherwise take the whole thing out. Portapotti works for me, just pass the full tank out of the toilet window rather than take it thru caravan.
Plenty of Thetford casette toilets at caravan breakers, they might even have a Fiamma.

That Egaweld is a good idea Tentz - my OH says it partly melts the plastic so it gets a hold (iykwim lol !) he'd forgotten about that stuff - never knew the name of it anyway.
Portapotti no good as there isn't a window in our cravan loo, just a skylight - I'm NOT going to try getting it out thrpugh there !

Been caravanning for over 30 years since a nipper and in the old days that was the only sort of portapotti you could get! Never seen one drop of anything spilt as once the slider is shut it should be watertight.

No doubt Ali, but neverthless now there actually is a choice - I'd really prefer not to lug a cassette full of pi$$ out through my caravan !
