I've got the handheld Dyson for pets and its got great suction power.  Only lasts for 6 mins though but I found that more than adequate.  Also on the pricey side but I use it at home every day and its a worthwhile investment.

We've got a black and decker wet n dry dustbuster (blue and white) lasts for 20 mins if charged over night but no battery light and doesn't work if plugged into the mains. Otherwise a brilliant little tool for the van-you can pick them up for about £25 now.

Never had much sucess with handheld vacuums.  We had a Dirt Devil vacuum with our last van whch was stolen with the van.  We have a small normal vacuum in this van.  Would be interested in  the Electrolux one, in view of you reports.  Could someone give me some idea how long and how wide it is.  It could save us a bit of room/weight.

Oh the electrolux looks good, like David says I've never had much luck with handhelds, I would be better off sucking up the crumbs with a straw for the suction some of them have.
