Fortunately we are not misserible enough to become one - sorry guys but I'm yet to stay at a Caravan Club site where I've been met with anything but a glum face and curt treatment.

Not yet a miserable one, wardens at High Onn are lovely people and nothing is too much trouble, same goes for Pembrey. We tend only to use those 2 main sites and spend the rest of our time on CSs or CLs and love those too.
I have never come across a miserable warden/s on a CC site, all very helpful and friendly. We were talking to the assistant warden at Chapel lane back in Jan about what its like being a warden, basically the salary is not great, and the job can be quite demanding at time but other than that his views were its a good job, but every job has its downsides.
95% of the Wardens we have met have been brilliant - Stuart and Margaret at Daleacres in Hythe, Kent are absolutely fantastic, as are their assistants this year, Phil and Julie. When they drive past on their tractor they always wave to the kids, and we have been there so often that they know us personally by name. Always putting on activities for the kids too. Really makes the holidays.
Mind you, it's a tough job though, as you are working all through the spring, summer and autumn when most people want to be off on holiday enjoying their caravan.
I once worked with a lady who went with her husband to be assistant wardens on a Caravan and Camping site. She sold her house and took the job. The next year she had enough and came back. Didn't suit her at all and it actually put her off caravanning.

Don't think anyone's going to tell you what the dosh is like Jason ! Sorry I 've no idea either, but I was wondering the very same thing a few weeks back so will keep an eye on this thread...
We were wardens/holiday site managers for 14 years for the C&CC. We loved every minute of it and I certainly don't think we were glum and curt. We still have friends we made on our first site which was Kessingland in Suffolk. We were there 6 years before we moved to Ebury Hill near Shrewsbury from where we retired only to be called back when needed. My OH was 70 and I was 65. The campers gave us the most wonderful party at a local garden centre with a 3 course meal and 70 guests and so many presents. I think it is a marvellous job if you enjoy camping although the wages are only about the minimum wage plus a few extras. Things have changed since we retired in 2002 but I would recommend it to anyone. Try it as Assistants for a season.
I was a camp warden many years ago. Its not a job to be taken on lightly or without due thought. For a start the pay is usually poor and the hours are long. During the summer months you will find yourself working 7 days a week, very often dawn till dusk. You will find yourselves cleanig up after people, many of whom think its funny to make as much mess as they can, especially in and around the toilets. You will also find yourselves acting as policemen, dealing with disputes over noise, drunkeness and all manner of antisocial behaviour. Oh yes, you will need to be an expert on the repair of every type of caravan and tent known to man. On the plus side you get to live in the open air and meet a lot of very nice folks. Before even considering this as a career, talk to as many site staff as you can to find out exactly what they think of the job

Gosh. I think I'd be worried that I was the common factor ;-)
You must have been very unlucky. I don't think I've come across more than a couple of grumpy ones - certainly a smaller proportion than in the population at large. I'm surprised it wasn't more, given what they have to put up with from some of the visitors.

I'm not the first person to mention two particular sites - they have been mentioned several times on this forum. Prefer the C&CC sites now because we find the wardens are much more welcoming. Maybe they get paid more or just prefer to see a different mix of age groups, tents & caravans etc.
