A friend of my mate told him he broke down while coming home with van in tow so,he phoned green flag. They came out and loaded the car on top of a flat bed then hitched the van to the back and set off.Ten miles later the driver said well i will have to pull over now as thats ten miles and, when the guy asked what he meant he was told he can be taken anywhere within ten miles after that theres a charge.£230 quid to get him home,is this true, have you checked the small print ?

I have only ever had to be towed once, the trip was about 100 miles each way. Never had a problem and no charges were made. I have my cover through the caravan club and have the comprehensive package. I suppose it would depend on the package your friend has. It wasn't the case for me however.

Hi
We had a accident while in Devon (not out fault)
Car was drivable but caravan had 2ft rip in it
So no chance of it being towed
We drove home to Shropshire and Green Flag delivered caravan the next day on flatbed lorry No charge
So they are no1 in our books

We are with Green Flag through our car insurance with Direct Line. We broke down on way back from holiday last year. As usual car on back of flatbed (with dogs in car), towed from just outside Inverness, dropping caravan at storage in Scone then home to Glenrothes with car and didn't have to pay anything, really good service.

What you get will depend on the level of cover you've bought.  We've got the 'all singing, all dancing' cover that gives full recovery, onward travel, home start, caravan, us covered in any car etc...  If you just buy basic 'Rescue' cover then all you'll get is a 10 mile tow if they can't sort you out at roadside.

It's also worth bearing in mind you need cover for your van.  If you only have cover for your car & your car breaks down they'll recover your van too but if the problem is with your van they won't touch it because the car is roadworthy.

We had the basic cover with Green Flag a couple of years ago.  I broke down on the other side of the city, and they towed my car to the nearest garage (which was within the 10 miles) and left us there.  I'd assumed, perhaps naively, that they'd then drop us home as that was still within ten miles of the breakdown but they simply offloaded us.

we are members of Caravan Club Mayday, Green flag,  I have just had my renewal & its £73.00, this covers road side repair & full recovery, if booked on a site they will take you there & if car cannot be repaired they will fetch you home all at not cost to you,

I also have extra care, they will send someone to drive you home if you are the only driver & have an injury while on holiday & cannot drive (think you have to get a doctors note for this)

We broke down last year at Exeter on our way to Cornwall they took us there & fetched us back a week later, returned to Northampton a round trip of about 400 mls, very good service, but not a nice way to get home (long Day)

This is the same as ours, used them twice, once with caravan, brought us from a site 60 miles away excellent service couldn't fault them.

As others, I think the full recovery is available at round about £75.  I have Green Flag for UK free as part of my Santander bank account ... paid £55 to upgrade for full european cover.

Green flag are top in my book, we broke down in fleet they were there within 10 mins and took us and car and van all the way home to Kent, I was so impressed. For what you pay a year that one recovery probably cost more in fuel for them to get us home.
Fantastic recommend them to anyone

We are Green Flag, through the CC Mayday and have had absolutely first class service from them.  Never a thought of me having to pay anything extra and we have used the double journey part of the scheme on more than one occasion when we have been towing the van.  I have to say we pay for the highest level of cover, including if we are driving or are passengers in any other vehicle.  My son once broke down on the way back from Asda in his car.  I was with him and they came out and recovered his car to his house because as I was covered as a passenger.

We also have Mayday/Green Flag, we paid £89 last September.

We have only used it once. They took us to our next site, sited the van, then returned the next day to take us and our car to the nearest dealer.

Our daughter had Green Flag as part of her insurance package, but what she didn't realise was that, as described in the opening post, the recovery distance was seriously limited. She broke down at night on the A1 and she was only recovered to the nearest garage - which wasn't open for repairs! Driver refused to take her further unless she paid. Check your policy.
