We need to put new tyres on our van.  Never had to replace tyres before so just wondering where is the best place to get them?  Thanks!

Last time I bought tyres I got them from www.blackcircles.comand had them fitted locally, all paid for online, I just took the car in and they changed them. I spoke to the staff in the fitting centre and asked if they could cut out the middle men next time, but they said they couldn't get the tyres in for what I paid to have them supplied and fitted.

That's great.  Thanks.  We have a local garage who can fit & balance them for us.  It's just knowing where to buy them from.  Thanks for the link.

I bought mine from Camskill, check out their website, click on vans and choose your size the delivery when I bought mine was £2 per tyre. I bought two 8ply 175 C rated for under £80 inc. delivery, of course you would have to have them fitted and balanced local.

I bought the tyres from black circles, and paid them for the fitting etc. They in turn paid the local fitter and sent him the tyres. You can buy the tyres and have them delivered to yourself, but the saving was very little and I know from experience if you go into a tyre depot with your own tyres that they would charge a lot more than the extra I paid to Blackcircles.

If you don't want the hassle of removing the wheels yourself, etyres are a good mobile fitting service & not too expensive.

http://www.etyres.co.uk/

Yes I do like to support my local tyre fitters, which I do with car tyres, but it's so much easier with these. They can fit almost anywhere, including storage sites & caravan sites. When they did my last van, they took there time & did a very good job.

Camskill are far the cheapest and my experience have a great service when replacing the OH's tyres last year, however I was unsure if my caravan had tyron bands when I replaced the tyres earlier this year, etyres were the cheapest for home fitting with tyron bands. In the end no bands were fitted but it was hassle free fitting at home although much more expensive than Camskill.

I've always found the price of tyres a little bit fluid.  Whenever I buy tyres for the car I ring up all the local garages and play one off against the other to get the cheapest price.  I can't honestly remember what I did when I last had a caravan tyre changed - it's been some time ago.  We've only had our current van two years (from new), the last van we had eighteen months (from new), and the van before that we changed the tyres about four years before we got rid of it.  So it's been about eight years ago since I bought caravan tyres.

Bear in mind you need van tyres, not regular car tyres for your caravan.

I had mine fitted at local Alba tyres. Got the equivalent to "Supervan 175C's" which according to my handbook my van should have had. It wasn't actually fitted with those, the previous owner had gone for a narrower size that were a more popular size (and obviously cheaper).

As I wanted to keep to spec I got the 175 - think they're made by Nangkang - so not the best tyres in the world. They were £100 for both, fitted inc valves, balance and disposal of old ones.

I wasn't aware till it came to actually having them fitted that my caravan had Tyron Bands fitted. The fitters seemed to be taking a while, and as I glanced over looked a little shifty, so I nipped into the fitting area and noticed they were fiddling inside the wheel rim, I then guessed it had Tyron Bands.

I asked if it did, and they said yes, and that they were taking them out. They said they were a pain to work with. I told them NOT to take them out!!! (I recon they were going to take them out on the assumption I didn't know they were there!!!) Anyway, I said leave them in.

He said had they known it had them they would charge more to swap them, but thankfully didn't charge me.

I then ended up realising my Bulldog wheel clamp would no longer go round my tyres as they were marginally wider (175 vs 165) but that tiny difference meant the Bulldog no longer fit, and I had to have it modified!!!

I buy all my tyres from two tyre companies local to me but with branches in the areas we cover with our vehicles.

If & when I've needed tyres for the caravan in the past, I ring them both for prices as I do for any other tyres we buy. I then take the wheels to them so the tyres can be fitted. I could tow the caravan there but it's just as easy to take the wheels off. I've no idea if they stock the right size tyres but the can normally get them in pretty quick.

We used to change our tyres after they'd done three seasons & four winters on our old van which we kept for 12 years. We've not kept a van long enough to change tyres since but intend following the same tyre renewal pattern with this van as we intend keeping it.

I will add that for safety,  I place a large section of RSJ under the axle both sides & have the stabilisers down at any time my wheels are removed.
