Savanne for one night maybe you'll be ok if you put in a few ice packs & keep the fridge shut until you are towing again ?

Or maybe put one lot of meat in frozen - the one you want to use first as then it won't matter even if it's partially defrosted after the overnight stop..

If you are thinking of overnighting at the ferry terminal, forget it! There is no room.

Suggest you book in at the CC site at Rookesbury Park as they have special ferry pitches.

You cannot use your fidge at all on the ferry as the staff check to see if the gas is on.

As has been said your 12 volt won't work unless the engine is running. We travel to France from Portsmouth regularly and we switch the fridge on 2 days before we go. We only put already cold food in it and frozen food in the freezer part. If you get some of the freeze packs and freeze them in your fridge at home you can put them in the fridge part before you travel.

Your food will be perfectly OK providing you don't open the fridge too often. The ferry trip will only be about 3-4 hours so there is no danger of anything spoiling.

You are right about meat being expensive in France and it is also of very poor quality. All food is more expensive there than here but they do have a lot more choice in their hypermarkets than we do here and it is much better displayed!

Has something changed John?  We've usually just parked in the lanes after the last ferry has gone, there was always plenty of space.

Re the fridge, as well as meat, try freezing milk, it stays solid for ages and keeps everything else cold.

I've tried to get into Rookesbury Park but its full, will keep checking every day on the off chance someone cancels. They've only got about 9 ferry pitches so not surprised they're full. Does anyone know of any other sites local to Portsmouth where we could leave at 7am in the morning?

Really daft question, but can you take meat abroad?

We have friends who have an apartment in France and they take meat there when they go. Expensive and not that good. Speaking from experience!

No you are not supposed to take dairy products to France bur nobody checks unless there is a scare on foot and mouth.
