we call my mum and dads that as it gets used 3 times a year and they always go to the same place, but each to their own.

we hate ours being stood for longer than a month as we just love getting away but I know its difficult for some, Could never imagine selling it though even if we did rarely use it.

To be honest if our van stood for over a year and was not being used then i think i would sell her reasons.This is what i think i would do.

 1 if i was paying for storage/insurance/service then there would be a saving put that money to one side and save it.

2 sell now so as not to loose money invest the money along with storage fees etc.

3 Then if i had the time to go caravaning  i would use the money from the sale/storage investment to buy a more up to date van,

Yes we love our vans but why waste good earned money on them if they are not being used.

Caravanning is an expensive way to holiday whether you use it much or not, when you add up the initial price of the van plus all the stuff we fill it with, plus the necessities like water hog, waste master, electric lead, awning etc etc etc plus (for some) storage, insurance, extra fuel costs when towing and that's all before we pay a site fee which in a lot of cases can be as much as a B&b per night.

BUT it's a way of holidaying we enjoy whether it's used 1 week or 5 months a year.

isnt jealousy jeff trust me on that they own a far nicer and newer van than ours.however theyre in the fortunate position to be retired and can use it at their leisure

I dont think the original poster mentioned in laws.

Someone else said invest the money. In What?  hardly safe to invest money these days is it.  I'd sooner have a caravan that's paid for.

However having said that I havent got 15-20K tied up in mine. I probably would think twice then.

Hi fife-bloke, Could explain to them that your are not in a position to go on a trip when you feel like it, unless some kindly relation was to offer to pay for your unpaid days off work, so the van wont be an ornament, Or you could ask them to lend you their van and you could sell your over priced ornament, No guesses what answer would be.
