As some of you will know from my previous posts, we have this year converted from canvas to our first caravan. One of the ways I persuaded (not nagged) my husband to the caravan was that we could have a longer season.
Now I admit I am a fair weather camper, I have been following the thread on winterising your water and am honest that the very cold is not for me. I don't like being cold and I'm not too keen on the mess associated with poorer weather. So those of you who don't do winter camping when does the season end and begin, I know its a personal thing but would like some opinions.
Our last booked trip is currently bank holiday weekend but I'm sure it must be ok a few more times after that and I am already thinking how much I will miss it. September October???
Hi our last is usually October half term (last week in october) and to date the weather has always been great, it's even been dryer than our main summer holiday on a couple of ocassions
After that it comes back out again for easter

We've been away for the October half term many times - very often one of the best holidays of the year, even sunbathed in Wales one year during this week.
The UK weather pattern usually gets better after August through to November so no winterisation until after November, but there again we've already half decided on spenting Christmas and New Year in the van this year so...
------------- Caravanning is a way of getting a cheap holiday out of an expensive hobby
When we camped under canvas October was our cut off, now we caravan all year round now, I love being cosy in my van with the wind and rain blowing outside but I'm toasty.

Adopt a rescue, rescue dogs make great pets, don't support puppy farms.
The road can be tough and rough, but what you put in you get back 10 x more.
Our last trip is normally Bonfire Night/Weekend. Unless the sites we use tempt us with special offers, but we only go up to end of November. The caravan then hibernates until March when it starts all over again !! My theory is .....the more nights you use it the cheaper it is to own
We use the van till end of November we go to local Country and Western weekend, one year we would like to use it over Christmas hols but not found anywhere yet and the price puts us off.
We normally use our caravan all year round, but due to arthritis can no longer do this. We have thought of placing it on a winter seasonal pitch somwhere near Worcester for a few months but trying to find a suitable reasonably priced place is like looking for hen's teeth in a desert.
We don't go away over the winter - same reasons as you - we normally start in March and the last trip is October. Whatever you decide the important thing is to enjoy your time away
We don't usually go away in the caravan during December and January, but mostly because we are pretty busy with family events at home during those months. We have been away when there has been snow on the ground (it arrived while we were on site, we would not have gone away if it had been snowy when we left) and were very warm and cosy in the caravan, more so than at home to be honest.
We would be more put off by the idea of towing on icy roads, or in driving rain and high winds, than we would be by the thought of not being comfortable in the caravan. Obviously, during the winter months, there are no long evenings spent sitting outside with a barbecue and a glass of wine, but you can still relax very pleasantly inside your van. Somehow, the fact that there is a smaller space to heat means it always feels warmer than home.
We only started caravanning at Easter but envisage going out at least once a month during the winter (as long as the roads are safe for towing) as some meets with the C&CC switch to commercial sites. We're hoping to go away for New Year too. When we holidayed in a static we switched from going in July to Ocober because the summer week was always an expensive washout & over the last 15 years we have quite often been on the beach in t-shirts in October when its much cheaper. With the caravan, we are free to pick & choose when we go, usually without having to book.
Our last trip will be December and we wont go away again until mid January ( a 4 week break). We decided that if we were to have a van then we needed to use it as much as possible. To be honest, waking up in Cornwall to 4 inches of snow last November was a great experience.

March 2012 - Dove Meadows
6th July Moving to Hayle
Our last trip is bonfire weekend and then our caravan will hibernate on the drive until mid - end of march. The main reason we don't go away in winter months is that we have generally used up OH's holiday allowance during the rest of the year's caravanning!
