Hi we are taking our caravan off a sited pitch to go touring in a few weeks , we have 2 cocker spaniels and on the pitch where we are the dogs have the annex with a inner tent to sleep in , my concern is when we start to tour they will have to come into the van at night obviously its far to cold for them to sleep in the weekend porch awning we have bought .... wet dogs in a van !!!! hubby isnt keen !! any thoughts/ideas on this ??? thankyou Diana
Ours are towel dried before coming into the 'van. We dry ours in the back of the car and hang the towel over their crate if we don't have the awning up. If we're using the awning we dry them in there and hang the towels in there too.
Works fine for us and our 2 JRs.

I have a poodle who is in full show clip , so you can imagine if she gets wet!!! Not everyone's bag admittedly but she has a all in one suit which she wears out on wet walks, its fab keeps her dry so all I have to do is wipe her paws and no wet dog. Extreme maybe but it serves two purposes, keeps her show coat in tip top condition and keeps the van clean.

We've got a lab springer cross, and his hair is like a springers, but on a lab sized dog. We clip him close during the months that we caravan so that we can let him swim when he wants to etc without worrying too much about what debri he is bringing back with him.
With the hair short we towel him off before he comes in the van, and he's got one of those heavy man made fibre coats which takes any moisture away and keeps him toasty at night. Also stops a lot of rubbish getting onto the floor.
After the last trip in October I let his hair grow for the colder months, then clip again in Feb for his first trip.
I second equafleece, they are really great , and wick away water quick

I use one of these a dog dry bag for my rough collie plus a light weight dog coat, I put a thick furry blanket on the caravan floor which can easily be lifted shaken and washed if necessary.
we've only got the one little yorkie now but when he gets wet he just gets towel dried in the awning , he's a tough little fella though ,no fleece jackets and such for him,you should see him in the snow
------------- no tin tent outings booked as yet ,just another cruise in Sept' booked so far
I'm with your hubby on this one, my dogs were never allowed in the caravan at all, they stayed in the awning. With a fan heater on low they were lovely and cosy - presumably you will have ehu so you could do the same.

Awwwww, bring 'em in the warm & cuddle up with them while you all sit watching the world go by .
We're probably too far the other way, ours are always in the van with us & sleep under the quilt with us, natures hot water bottle
Do you have them clipped? They'd be easier to keep clean & dry quicker if their fringes and paws/pads at least were short, we don't have the carpets in the van & when it's wet put towels on the floor so the initial damp pawprints are absorbed & have a supply of single duvet covers for the seats.
We've got light upholstery & at the end of last season hired a cleaner (machine not person) & the water coming out was almost clear so the throws had done their job.
Esther1, i'm with you! Our 'van is an extension of our house - our dogs are allowed in the house, same rules apply in the caravan! We use throws on the seats and don't use the carpets so there's no problem!
Theres no way our Charlie and Lily would stay out in the awning when we're inside the caravan!
I'm with you too Esther, my Honey is my hottie bottie, we snuggle up together, she sleeps in-between me and hubby, wouldn't be any other way :) poodles have no undercoat so feel the cold especially toys, so we all keep cosy on winter nights!!!

We have covered every available space in our (admittedly small) bongo with throws, rugs, covers etc. We did the same when we had the caravan. Lifted carpets and threw throws and covers over everything. The bongo still stinks with wet dog when he he has been in the rain but, que sera, it can be cleaned, I'm not that fussed. And I'm saying that because for me it would be more bother than it is worth trying to keep everything doggy smell free. When the time comes to sell on it will get a super duper clean.

Same here ,mind you though ,they are really big dogs so no choice really . Caravans are not as well built or hard wearing as my house ,not really up to the sheer muck that dogs produce .In all our years of camping they have been fine in the awning with a heater on . We have proper dogs who enjoy a proper dog holiday ( rolling in muck, swimming in semi frozen lakes and streams and generally being very wet and very filthy and they love it !!
