Hi all, to be short we were on out waywith friends for half term to troutbeck in the lakes for half term. managed to overturn van and car on A1, all safe and sound but need ideas on how to get on holiday!! trien tourer hire but could do with local knowlege or experience form you all. Thanks

Thank you all for help and concern. we have tidied the van out and now waiting to see what the insurance say and are hoping if they write it off they will give us enough to replace it. keeping fingers crossed for the car too and hoping they fix it. all in the opinion of the insurance now!!! anyone got any tips re insurance and payments.

It was not windy, it was not wet, we wernt going fast, we have a disco and a major 6 so no kerbweight issues, we went past a lorry as we have done hundreds of times and a slight wobble turned into a disaster so fast it was incredible. Dogs safely in cage and seat belts all on so luckily no injuries just shaken and scared.

Luckily friends behind us and looked after children, lovely people stopped and sorted  dogs out and grateful for everyones help although i have no clue who they were now.

Sorry to hear of your accident, that must have been so scary. Just out of interest where were you on the A1 as we have noticed on a particular section we were very unstable - I think the road may be a problem. If my memory is correct it was north of Newark before you get to Doncaster.

That sounds like where we noticed our caravan being unstable which is very unusual for us, it was in the last 12 months, I think it was April and we were much more careful the last time we went up the A1 (August). May be there are ruts or dips in the road surface.

sorry to hear of your accident an glad you are all ok, re insurance we had a claim this year following an accident. Our van was written off, we were lucky an our insurance comapany were very fair. The only tip is remain firm with them an dont accept the 1st offer. Our insurance company made us an offer which was £500 more than what we paid for the van! we were very pleased until they wrote to us admitting they had made a mistake and revised the offer reducong by over £600!!

I stuck by my guns and did not accept, also clearly stated they had admitted the mistake, i kept at them an in the end they paid out the original offer.

I have new for old as it a under 5 years van and it says insured amount should be to replace new. at the renewal time i looked round and it was 11.5k so that is what i rolled with but to replace new now will be 14 so i not sure wether i can argue. I didnt realize they meant new not equivelant and also i did think if i hiked it up too much they could accuse me of overinsurig. I will have to wait and see

I think you should be okay, we have new for old and our van is only worth £4-£5k, no way a new one could be bought for that But it's under 10 years old so qualifies.
