My cousin has just bought a Bailey Senator Vermont 2 berth.

They've got the caravanning bug quite bad, having vistited the NEC with us and coming down to Ferry Meadows to stay with us in our Burstner.

Just been texted to tell me they've bought a Bailey, and are well pleased.

Just wondering where in the old range did the Senator sit? it is a nice looking van, and better than the Ranger I thought they would get.

Oh, no wonder they went for it. I'm a bit concerned that they have gone too heavy for their 1.8 Focus estate. But I guess they'll have to tow the van empty and load the car with their gear to manage.

nope, I tried to tell them. the MTPLM is 97%!!!

unladen its 84% so they'll have to be very, very stringent on the loading.

the car dealer told them the cars tow weight was 1500, and they aimed for that rather than the 85% rule.

I would seriously get them to check their weights and make sure they are safe to tow with their Focus.  I'm sure they wouldn't want to have an accident on their first outing

Unfortunate example of folk acting before checking on the technicalities.
See Senator weights on VanData site

Any idea on age of Focus as could even have a 1200kgs towing limit (Senator could be 1293kgs at absolute minimum, depending on year).
You might need to consider gentle intervention.

Oh dear. There was a 5dr with 1500kgs tow limit, but most of the estate range were 1200kgs and one at 1300kgs depending on year.
I think they've got a problem.

think their dealer was telling porkies, just looked at cuddles and the maximum for a 1.8 estate is 1200kg or 1300kg depending on the brakehorse and year

I would think they might need to change it. There's only so much you can achieve by putting stuff in the car.

Sorry, but the kerbweight is irrelevent if the manufacturer has imposed a restriction on the towing.
Depending on exact year of Senator, match could even exceed 100%. As they're clearly new to touring, this is a definate non-starter.

Dealer was clearly thinking of his Christmas stocking!

I know that as we have the same problem with our car but wanted to show the kerbweight to show that the car is less than the 1500kg the salesman said it could pull
