We are going to view a Bailey Beachcomber 470/4 berth 1995 at the weekend, We sold our marauder last year because of circumstances and bought a folding camper but as nice has it is its not for us and we want a caravan again but we need to buy the right van with our small funds.
its a older van but from pics looks as if it has been well looked after.
I can't find a weight for this van though and there isn;t one on the advert,( I can email the seller if no one knows.) does any one have one of these vans and if so could you tell me the weight and length and most importantly what you think of it overall .
Or any suggestions for any other 4 berth caravans we can look at from year 1995 to 2000 with a budget of up to £4000 lol
Thanks in Advance
Our tow car will be a 2.0 Hyundai diesel santa fe

Can't give you an opinion on this van, but a search gives the following basic spec:

Length: 6.22m (14'11")
Width: 2.18m (7'2")
Unladed Weight: 878 kg
MTPLM: 1132

When we first started looking for a caravan the Beachcomber caught my eye - I love the name - and I Wstarted a thread about it

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=8&TopicID=206138&SearchPagePosition=1&search=bailey+beachcomber&searchMode=phrase&searchIn=Topic&forum=8&searchSort=dateDESC&ReturnPage=Search

As expected the comments were good & bad. We didn't get to view it and it was over a year later that we bought our caravan.

The Swift Jura is a dealer special edition from Knowepark Caravans, it is and always has been a 2 berth.  Agreed a good 'van ... we have the 2010 version, our at least we do currently, our new Sterling Cruach should have been built this week.

We did own a Bailey Beachcomber 440/4 from new in 1995 until 2004.  Great 'van.  The only issue we had was some water ingress round the toilet hatch in year nine.  The weight quoted by another poster as 1132Kg fully laden seems high to me, our 440 weighed in at 990Kg fully laden, from memory the slightly larger 470/4 was around 1050Kg.  A wonderful van, we added blinds and flyscreen, an oven, extra sockets, extra lights, folding TV table etc etc to ours.

Hi
Thanks for info IanM
We are going to have a look at the van tmrw ,very excited.
Seller has sent me loads of pics of the inside and outside and it looks nice.
We are also going to make appointment to view a Compass clremont 490/5 year 2000 this van is selling for a bit over our budget. Any one have/had one of these?
There are loads of vans out there within our budget its a minefield lol just want to get it right as whatever we buy will be our holidays for a good few years unless we win the lottery. thanks for all your advice ,very very much appreciated.

We took a year to find our van. We'd spent many weekends browsing dealers & looking at a few private sales. You've set a budget so you're half way there.  Next you need to decide which layout will suit you best, either end bedroom or bathroom. We went to a dealer because we knew nothing about vans & wanted the backup of a warranty.

Good luck tomorrow!!
