We cheated! Bought a 4 berth folding caravan (complete with full size awning) and set up one of the seating areas as a permanent bed.
It has 3 way fridge, sink with pumped water, cooker with grill. Has 240v and 12v electrics and i use a halogen cooker with it as well.
This may be an option for you, its more econonmical to store and cheaper to tow. There are a number of different types, Rapido, Esterel, Gobur and now Pennine has just brought one out that has a fitted permanent bed (personally i don't think much of the layout of the pennine, they could have done much better).
Have a look around as see what you can see.

Thank you so much for all your help you have given me something to go on. My parents want to change there autosleeper motorhome for a caravan and car but it needs to be less than 20ft to fit into there garage. They are retired and would prefer a fixed bed so they dont have the hassle of putting a bed up every night.
there is a sprite that is smaller with a fixed bed option think its the alpine the musketeer has one to but a wee bit longer have a looke at there site and you will get lenghts and layouts.
Well if it has to go in a standard size garage you will struggle. Pretty much it's Eriba only, and when I researched this myself (a few years ago, admittedly) it was only the Puck or Triton that would fit in my garage because of the height. Neither has a fixed bed iirc, both have "pop tops" which rise when on site.

Yes, something with a pop top. I think the poster who mentioned the folding caravans and also the trailer tents are good ideas. Mine will fit into a garage as it has a pop top, but two full length single beds, you have to make them up with the table if you want a double!
Have a look at the new Trigano Silver pop-top range, one of these has a fixed bed.
We have a smaller one without the fixed bed, they have a great build, we tow ours with a 1.5 Micra diesel.
