Tommy why havent you filled in you profile so we can all see what type of car an caravan you have. Do you camp with hook up or do you use battery. I bought a LED TV 19" with built in DVD and freeview and can pause live tv and record programmes for £129. Also this is a true 12 TV. I thing that is a reasonable price.

Even on ehu sites there is a big advantage with our Avtex tv over the 2009 Grundig one we had before. The vertical viewing angle is much greater (useful when seating positions in a caravan are not always ideal) & it has better reception in weaker signal areas.
The Kogan 240/12V TV's are nice pieces of kit for only £139 which give a 22" TV and inbuilt DVD player and USB recording etc. or £119 if you don't want a DVD. I'm pleased with mine and it has a very low power consumption as well. It gets a fair bit of use as I use it at home as well as in Caravan. The only downside I have found has been the socket for USB is a bit awkward to get at but I resolved it by simply using a short USB cable to a 16Gb memory stick.

Hi Birdie I bought the Kogan as well 19" as you say the usb is in an awkward place and to be honest I think I have a crap memory stick because playback can be a bit joggy what stick type did you use?

Chalkie, I mostly use sandisk ultra memory sticks as I use them for work and they are very reliable. I have used the CF cards from my camera in a usb card reader and they also seem quite reliable. The Sandisk Ultra memory sticks are not the cheapest but what cost do you put on a memory stick the doesn't do what you want or fails at a critical time.

We use a standard 16 inch led tv I got from tesco with bulit in DVD player it also has usb. It is 12v so a multi 12v car adapter runs it form the 12v socket in the van no problem without paying for a very overpriced 12v tv from caravan shops. Its also very very light so I have attched it to a tilt and swivel arm under the cupboard so no problem with viewing angles!

Aug - can't decided

Plus many more weekends at every possible chance!
When we bought a Grundig 19" TV with DVD from Tesco Direct, we did not consider anything other than it being for use on 240 v.a.c. When it arrived we found that it is 12 v.d.c. with its own separate 230 volt transformer. So, presumably, if we bought the appropriate adaptor, it would work from the caravan's 12 v.d.c. supply. I think quite a number of theseTV's are now designed in this way.

Bertie.
The problem can be that the power supply has the smoother as well as a fuse in it. If you bypass these you risk damaging the TV. TVs designed for 12v have a smoother within the TV.
Hi Zafiral. There were previous threads about true 12 volts and 230 down to 12 and you summed it up. I was trying to tell them that unless they are true 12volts they wont work properly or may damage the TV.
Birder I will have to check out the stick in the van last time I used it the playback was fragmented and unwatchable - I wonder why that was I hope it isnt the TV
