Most caravan tyres are commercial ones with a higher psi. to take the extra weight and stability so firstly you need to look at what the maximum output the tyre inflator. My tyres are 52 psi. and have a Halfords 12 volt tyre inflator that you connect to the cigar lighter in the car which can push up to around 80 psi. I paid £22 for mine but that was about 5 years ago.

I have had a Michelin Hi-Power rapid Tyre Inflator for about 3 years and I cannot fault it in any way, even the pressure gauge is pretty accurate, It also caters very well for our 4x4 which has got 18 inch wheels

I reccommend the type of tyre inflator where you set the pressure you require before you connect it to the tyre. This is usually a 12v digital pump.

On the dial type the needle can fluctuate so much, that your eventual pressure can be nothing more than a best guess.

I use a Ring tyre inflator which runs of the 12v socket in the car. It got a best buy acolade somewhere. You can set the max pressure and it goes ou high enough to cover caravan tyres. Just a word of warning, I have tried running off the caravan 12v socket and it blow the fuse.

I have a Michelin hi power digital compressor. I can use it from my caravan, but be careful if you need to use an extension flex that it is rated to 10A, most are only 3A.
I once tried using the compressor that came with my Zafira instead of a spare & that was not man enough, even though the gauge claimed it could high enough.

After several pumps, two of them 12 volt DC jobs I went to a cycle track pump, specifically the Joe Blow Sport:

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_178303_langId_-1_categoryId_165661#tab1

I have now had this three years and from day one till now I am exceptionally pleased with it. My tyres run at 65 psi and this pump which is suitable for up to 160 psi deals with the van tryes very easily. It features a very good valve connector which has been a weakness in some other pumps I have had, and a seemingly good gauge. Not having to bring the car up to connect wires onto the battery or with lesser units the 12 volt outlet is a bonus.
Thoroughly recommend it as an alternative solution, even useful for our bikes!

I always carry two tyre inflators, a manual one and an electric one. You never know when one might give up. I currently have a Ring RAC630 tyre inflator which has not let me down.

We had the Ring RAC600 (£22) great little pump, although our Son seems to be the current owner!

So we now have the Ring RAC700 (£31) now that is a decent pump, no fancy bits, just a pump, although check your car's 12v Socket fuse as the RAC700 draws just over 10amp, some cars are 10amp some are 20amp.

The daddy is the Ring RAC900 the king of inflators I would argue, but at a fuse blowing 24amp's has to be connected directly to your car battery or leisure battery.

Having said that the RAC900 is the pump of choice for breakdown/recovery firms, although at £80 is an investment.

Strange that as I use my Ring 600(?) regularly to pump up my Lock 'n Level with no issue.
