These are supposed to be the new tires from Michelin.
These are for the army.
And for us ?
And what the ad says
These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out
on the market very soon.
The bad news for law enforcement is that
spike strips will not work on these.
Just think of the impact on existing technology:
A. no more air valves...
B. no more air compressors at gas stations...
C. no more repair kits...
D. no more flats...
These are actual pictures taken at the
South Carolina plant of Michelin

How do you adjust them, when carrying a heavy load or towing?
The tweel would be self adjustable as the inner hub contains a matrix of deformable plastic structures that flex under load and return to their original shape. By varying the thickness and size of the spokes, Michelin can generate a wide array of ride and handling qualities. So basically it sounds like if you need tweels for towing then they would be manufactured and designed with thicker spokes to accomodate the extra weight of the towing hitch. This is how I see it anyway.
Ok. According to Wikipedia they are noisy, they vibrate and increase fuel consumption by 5%. Can't travel at normal motorway speeds and can't carry heavy loads. I wonder if these issues have been solved and how much do they cost.
Will they fit existing rims?
The email i got says they will be on the market by august in America. We can laugh now but think of all the other things we thought crazy and, we are using them..

Yes and I wonder what people thought when the pneumatic tyre was introduced that we all use today. I would imagine their thoughts at the time would be exactly the same.
There's a challenge for Bernie of F1 fame. Do a deal with Michelin to use them on F1 cars in a sponsorship deal and let the techie guys sort them before putting on raod cars. I'm sure Bernie could put some eco spin on the whole thing.
