Well I have gone and done. I have put down a deposit on a 2006 Adria Altea 542uk. It is a perfect layout for me and it is actually a 6 berth, the only one of its kind in that model range, it was specially made for the family when they purchased it new.
I still have to sell my old caravan to fit the new one in its place, so work must commence to get in back in a sellable condition. It is much bigger than my current caravan so it will be whole new towing experience. I will be picking it up at the Easter holidays, can't wait!!!!!
Hi we have had a 543 since new in 2006 - my first comment was going to be "the 542 is not a sixth berth" but then i read the rest of your post. Have they had a bunk put in over the back diner?
WE have been pleased with ours, great sized beds and a dream to tow. A really good payload too.
Hope you enjoy your new van.
Sue
Typo - meant to read 542! need to put the light on!
Yes that's where the sixth bed is, it only sleeps someone less than 9 stone, so it will do one of the kids, if needed. My husband doesn't like the caravan so it means that I can go away with the boys with them in the bunks and me in the single bed next to them. I only have to make up one bed and can leave the front seats as they are. Perfect and if I'm only away for a few days at a time I might not even need an awning up.
Our first van was the 542UK. WE loved it. It was lightweight and easy to tow. It was basic but was very robust. It is often described as Ikea on wheels. The 2006 model won't come with a battery as standard which isn't a problem if you have EHU. The water heater is electric only. Some had an oven put in as an option but ours didn't miss it and used a microwave. The bunks are huge and comfy and the back closes off from the front at night
Yeah Wizzo, mine doesn't have an oven but I have one of table top ones from Argos that I bought for my old caravan so I can transfer it. I have looked and looked and Adria's are hard to come by and that was the layout that I wanted so I jumped. I'm looking forward to taking ownership but I will be a wee bit apprenhensive towing with to begin with, as my current caravan is a lot smaller, but my car will pull it no problem. The thing about it being basic doesn't bother me, it is a step up either way and you can always add bits and bobs. I am going to get a mover fitted so will have to move my battery over. It would be ok on sites to move but it is very tight trying to get it in my drive.
Tracey. Has your Adria been converted to be able to install a battery? They only added this on the 2008 model. They added a battery box in the bed bed box of the side dinette. The 2008 didn't actually charge the battery and if you search on "Charging Leisure Battery Altea 542uk 2008" I was involved in a thread where I added the charging facility. If you van is not set up then you could simply add a plastic self contained(v Cheap)battery box in the side dinette and have it constantly connected to a smart charger and your motor mover can be connected directly to the battery. If you don't need the ability to use the battery for anthing other than the mover then this will be fine otherwise you can connect the battery to the 12v system so it will supply that as well when not on hook up.
I added many items including an articulated TV arm for an LCD TV which allowed me to put the microwave on the unit where the TV normaly goes. Any questions do not hestitate to contact me.

Hi sorry to hijack original post but Karl where did you put the TV arm? we have the adria, got it last year and luuuuve it, we want to mount the tv to free up space on the shelf but with the big mirror being behind the wall were worried how we would put a bracket in?
Ours does have an oven but its never been used and I don't think I'll bother with it either to small to be any use really and i bet its a pain to clean afterwards.
No it doesn't have a battery. What you suggest is good as that is what I was thinking of doing. I went to view a 2004 model and that is where he had put the battery. I will have a look at the post as it would be good to get the battery charged when needed. I have a slight problem in that my battery has gone flat and I am going to try and bring it back, otherwise I will need a new one.
Thats a good question that you have been asked about the TV arm, as that is the place that I was thinking of putting it, forgot all about the mirror! I've only seen tha caravan once.
It worked well here as it could also pivot out into the awning.
ps I have loads of photos of this model that I took for the purchaser who bought it just by looking at the photos. If you send me your email I will send them on if you can't wait until you get it.
