We've been discussing whether or not to sell our caravan, our kids have other interests now & we'll need the space it sits on to park yet another car when our youngest starts driving so the decision to pack up has been made.

We now need to work out whether to advertise everything as a complete package or to advertise it all seperately. Everything has to go but how best to do it is the question.

The caravan is a Bailey Pageant Provence series 7, three years old in May complete with a Mover serviced by the supplying dealer from new & in perfect condition. The awning is a Dorema Senator Lux in Blue/Grey with the fibre glass frame complete with two tall annexes with sleeping inners. If it goes as a package, all the water/waste containers & a gas bottle can go with it along with the hook up lead.

How & where would you advertise it, as a package or seperate it? I'll put an ad or ads in the free ads on here but it'll need advertising elsewhere too.

Indeed we went down the same path when our children became teenagers in the late 90s, sold up a 3yr old caravan which we loved, in order to give them a chance to see more of the world by taking package holidays. It wasnt long before we regretted the decision and missed our lovely caravan deeply.

By this time we had used the cash we made from the sale to upgrade from the gas guzzler of a 4x4 we owned at the time, to a new 'supermini' a Honda Jazz, so no chance of towing much else with that, other than a camping trailer, so it wasnt long before we had got a tow bar fitted and had been out and set ourselves up for tent camping once more.

5 years Later, children starting to fly the nest, and OH retired, and we were soon finding ourselves down at the caravan dealers looking for a suitable lightweight van to be towed by our new Honda Civic, and that is the one we still own today, so I entirely agree, think long and hard before you sell up as you may regret it afterwards, and its suprising how quickly children can decide to fledge the nest and take their newly aquired car with them!

I would think long and hard before selling. I did 2 girls left home so just me and wife. Loved just going everywhere. Then my wife suddenly died whilst touring spain. Thought again of giving up but glad I kept the van, infact kept me sane.

Can't you keep it in storage? Doesn't have to be expensive (well, I don't think so, have been to quite a few CLs/CSs where vans are stored). As others have said, it seems a drastic decision which you may come to regret.

We are also thinking of giving up as we don't make full use of the van but don't want to rush into the wrong decision.

could you not put it on a seasonal pitch so you have room on the drive, and also you will have the pleasure of the van anytime without the hassle of towing it ect, also could come in handy for grand kids when the time comes.
i have a coachman amara 640 and it stays on site not too far away from home, and it works out perfect for our tribe, and if we do want to go somewhere different we take the tent!
i think for the price a seasonal pitch of good value for money

I agree don't give up try leaving in storage for a while . Try one of the c&cc site they store them then you can have it pulled out if you want to stay on the site of it then proves to be too costly or you are not going to use it sell.
Also you may have a relative that might like to stay in it.
Good luck what ever you do.

It sounds like you are putting your children's interests at heart first which is quite rightly so but what you have to remember is that circumstances change over time and quite often sooner than you think. You may surrender your precious possession to make way for a family car but in a couple of years time that may not be the case due to marriage or something similar when you once again have that vacant space outside your home for a caravan. It is then that you will regret your actions as you would have to start all over again and have regrets of selling your caravan that you have now. The important factor to consider as well is life itself as your children have a long future in front of them but yours is getting shorter and time stands still for no man. Make the best of what you have as you also have a life to live and your lifestyle is going to somewhat differ to your children so I should really think about the distant future rather than the short term one. Although I am not in the same predicament I have to agree with others comments that from experience they all regret selling up.

It's clear that all us commenters here are such fans of caravanning that we are appalled at someone wanting to give it up!!

However, if you are selling, I would recommend selling it all as a package.  We have just sold our caravan (because we bought a new one).  We sold it on Gumtree and got full asking price.  We included the awning, the awning carpet, the step, an (empty) gas bottle and an aquaroll and wastemaster.  The family who have bought it are new to caravanning (they have tented before) and I actually get pleasure from the thought we have set these nice folk up ready to go as caravanners.

when our kids got into "other things" we used the van even more , just the 2 of us .Thats when the real caravanning fun starts . it was fine while they were young but when they hit 14 + it was hard work trying to keep 3 moody teens happy. When they decided not to go with mum and dad anymore it opened up a whole new world for us...peace and quiet !!!
ive still flirted with selling up even up to 6 months ago but 99% sure as soon as the van went off into the sunset minus us we would regret it BIG time !!!!
BUT, if you are sure thats the way forward id sell the whole lot as a package , gumtree or ebay.
good luck

We are the same as bev+jon, since our children gave up coming with us we have used the 'van more than ever! More weekends away ,couldn't do weekends away with kids as they have paper rounds. Now eldest is at uni and youngest loves having the house to herself!

We never considered having to give up our caravan but good luck with the sale of yours.
