Hi. On another thread a potential buyer of a Geist LV485 discovered body warping on the nearside of the 'van. This appears to have been caused by failure of the chassis rail on the BPW v-tech swing chassis. This same potential buyer gained the opinion that there had been a recall on some Geist 'vans (4 or 5 series?)
Is there anyone out there who had a recall? what was done? did it work? was the 'van 100% OK afterwards? Or do you know of anyone involved or even hear of this?
I've replied on the other thread. My information about the problem came from a forum. I don't have anything definite about a recall other than a brief mention in a phone call.
Is yours ok? Geist obviously still have some information as they were able to confirm to the dealer we spoke to that the chassis had been replaced. Whether that was as warranty or recall I do not know.
Hi, thanks for the info. I have discovered chassis cracks. Yup, the bloke who extols the virtues of Geist gets a chassis fracture!
We did not receive notice of the recall as the dealer from whom we purchased new in 2005 gave up the franchise. I have an offer from BPW of replacement chassis rails and I'm pursuing the remnants of Geist. Interstingly - I have only minimal evidence in the 'van.
Hi we have a Geist LV485 2004 we bought this second hand in 2010, we had it serviced last year but have taken it to another dealer for a service this year and have been told that the chassis is cracked. I have seen some reference to problems with this model and wondered if anone knows if there had been a recall?
As you can see from previous postings, I've been there and done it, but much more importantly, I got resolution. Please PM me and I'll give you all my e-mails etc.
There was NOT a recall on the LV485, despite rumours to the contrary!! I can help you here as I had the same problem.
That's all very well JayEss, but you still need to check the chassis very carefully, assuming it is a BPW one. The cracks appear where the axle is bolted to the long chassis rail, can be seen nearly adjacent to the wheel. They were not all affected and I was fortunate, eventually, to get 2 new rails from BPW. The original design specification gave the requirement to BPW. Therein lay the problem, in order to save weight the spec kept the thickness of the rails down. My new ones are the thicker version as used on the bigger Geist vans. Best of luck, because they are great vans!
Thankyou very much for your reply, I am sorry I do not know whar you mean by PM you but my email address is dpemberton at tinyworld.co.uk if you could email me.
Thanks Adrian. We've been looking at this particular van since March. It was over priced then and they haven't taken any money off it despite it being left open for anyone to traipse in and out of all summer
If, and it seems unlikely, they are prepared to budge on the window price (and I have raised the chassis issue with them already) then I may be tempted. However they need to take about 3K (really!!!) off the ticket in the window before I get excited.
The lack of warping was a positive because not too much damage has taken place as yet. If I can get the chassis done then it's potentially quite sound. Unlike the one I had a deposit on which looks like it's been sold. Unlucky for the new owner
Umm., that's exactly the same as in your message dated 12/11/12! I assume the "at" means "at symbol" ? I hope so, 'cos that's where everything has been sent!
