Hypothetical question with regards the posibility of fuel tanker drivers striking over the easter holidays.
Many of us are hitting the roads over easter and obviously need the fuel to get to our destinations.Without knowing in advance which fuel stations may or may not have fuel this has the potential to leave motorists stranded. Do any of you have plans in place to counteract any problems that may occur ie changing booking to closer to home , cancelling althogether ,carrying extra fuel. Also if you became stranded would youre breakdown cover come into play as im sure they would also be struggling for fuel.
Just interested to know what people think.
For a long weekend break I would never go far enough to exhaust my fuel supply before I got home again. It's not worth the cost or hassle.
Fill before you leave.

i think fill up well in advance because as soon as news breaks of a strike then the profiteering at the pumps will start and the price will rocket.remember last time , some garages stuck 30p a litre on,simply because they could.
Please restrict any responses to answering the original poster's questions, regarding plans to counteract any problems. No politics or political discussion as usual. Many thanks

We are due to go away on good Friday, a fair haul to Great Yarmouth, I plan to fill up about 4 days before (we wont need the car much for the four or so days before) and then top up as necessary till we go away. Once there depending on circumstances we will use public transport and top up as and when possible. If I get stuck, then so be it, at least I will be towing my bed, toilet and kitchen behind me

------------- Are you sure you couldn't squeeze anything else in love ?
We go away on the Tuesday after Easter but not too far away....I guess we will fill the Landrover and if the worse comes to the worse we will fill my wires car and take both and park the ;and rover up to ensure we have for our return journey and use the wires car to run around in...
I think play it safe and go as close to home as possible. Just hope everyone doesnt go out panick buying and filling up (just in case) coz that will drop everyone in the s.....
The time to panic is after they decide to go on strike and announce a date. When going away I fill my car before I set off, thrn fill it again after I have arrived. Before I set off for home I check to make ure I ve enoigh fuel, i cn not see me oing snything different for Easter.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
We intend to go away for easter for our 1st time with the new van but only 1 hour away to the Cotswolds, didn't want to go to far in case of any problems and our dealer is nearby in oxford for any warranty issues. Providing there is fuel one tank on the X-Trail will be fine for us to get there / back plus some driving around. If things get bad then we will have to cancel the weekend as won't head off unless I know we can go with a full tank. As they have announced the strike today next Tuesday will be the 1st day they could technically walk out.....so will just need to keep an eye on the news and keep our fingers crossed!
We are not daring to tow to Yorkshire from Kent so annoyingly we have amended our Scarborough booking to Daleacres as a return trip can be done on a single tank of fuel if necessary.
Thankfully we are only rallying near Oxford, and don't anticipate much driving around so a couple of gallons will do for us. Hopefully panic buying won't be a problem but wait and see....
As long as the strike ends after Easter, I don't really care. I avoid camping at Bank Holidays anyway, but I've got a trip of around 500 miles at the end of April, so I will definitely need to top up during that trip.
No plans to be away for Easter anyway, but first trip of the year may get extended if we find we arrive on site and have fuel supply problems. We have just bought a 230v 1.5sq ft mini freezer for the caravan, so will fill that up with food basics on arrival, and then we wont need to make so many journeys into town, and will enjoy the Seascapes and views around the site instead.

Think I am going to keep my tank filled up rather than let it run empty which is what I do now. OR should I stay off work and just use the fuel at the weekend!!!
We are in Dorset for easter which is quite a trek for us so plan to keep the tank topped up before hand, as long as we get there, don't mind being stranded.
