Just like to know if people take the condiments (ie salad cream and ketchup) home or are are left in the caravan in between trips, I know when the seasons over to take them all out, but having read on the bottles that after so long they should be thrown away after being opened and also not having the fridge working all the time when the vans not in use.

we use the sachets in the caravan, ,salt, pepper, sauces etc all in a plastic container, saves on cupboard space too not having loads of different bottles and such

We were talking about this the other day, when we were kids all out condiments were just stored in our kitchen cupboard at home and they never stated they had to be refridgerated or there was a time they had to be binned. We can't understand why the new guidelines came in, most of them are vinegar based, and I thought it was a natural preservative? Apparently you have to put beetroot and pickled onions in the fridge too, surely if they're pickled it isn't necessary?
Apologies in advance if I'm totally wrong, I'm not a scientist, I was just trying to use my common sense.

We tend to stock up on dried things at beginning of season eg tea coffee salt sugar herbs spices but sauces tend to take out of the fridge as we go as often they are nearly finished and can be thrown away at the end of the stay

I tend to not use it because of the waste, I have bought the odd bottle of ketchup and usually end up throwing most of it away because it runs out of date long before the contents have gone.
I had considered the sachets but dodn't know if they would go off with the high temperatures when the van is in storage during hot periods?

This is a good place for sachets etc. I can't see they will go off anymore than leaving an opened bottle of the stuff in the caravan would.

12p for a sachet of tomato sauce! hmm I'd rather get the neighbours kid to collect them for me when they are out for their junk food.

mine go in and stay in, ketchup, brown sauce, salad cream are mostly vinegar anyway, they dry up rather than go "off"

fully support ernie on this one. each time you go to a pub or a fast food place, stock up on the little sachets. much easier - and cheaper :)

That's what I do too. Developed quite a stash over the last couple of years. Same with sugar too. Although I have discovered that the saccharin sachets do not store well.
