We are new to caravanning, so have bought a Bailey Beachcomber 1995 (I suppose classed as a crappy). It is in perfect order but very small, so we take great delight if we spot one smaller than ours. We love our van, the porch awning is almost a full awning, I wouldnt swap it for anything, but it does look tiny at the side of others, although inside there is plenty of room for the 2 of us. We go away with sister in law and her husband as they have also bought an older van, and 4 of us sit and eat in it in the evening with no problems.
Size does not matter after all!
size and age of caravans is irrelevant, just so long as it suits your needs and you are happy. i've reacently bought a 32 years old ci sprite musketeer 4 berth and took it up to maryport on the north west coast last weekend. my girlfriend and i really enjoyed our first trip out in her and despite the torrential rain and alarming winds we loved the experience. "daisy the dog sh*t brown van" was faultless despite her advancing years.

"daisy the dog sh*t brown van"that really made me laugh
we bought the van because it was cheap and in good condition, and light to tow (first timers) but after 4 trips away this year (dont ask about the weather)
I have no desire to get anything newer or bigger as it is perfect. Now to think a name for him
i paid £400 for ours, she's got everything we need ie: dry and warm, lots of space and was easy to tow on my first go at caravanning. she looked very old parked up next to more modern vans but that just made us more proud of her...wonder how many newer vans will make it to 32 years old and still be dry?
we wont be changing her...no need really. roll on more weekends away!!
Really doesn't matter about size and age as long as you are happy. The newer vans might look more sprauncy but are the people in them any happier than you are?? Enjoy your 'van and your trips. You never know, some of the people in the new 'vans might justbe envious of you!
Ours is 1995 as well and not huge--14.5 ft. We have had it 13 years and we won't be changing it. If it falls to pieces then we give up. The car is 1997 and the same applies to that. Given that OH is 80 next and I will be 76 this year and we have been camping/caravanning for nearly 50 years e won't have done so badly.
My caravan is always the smallest on site - she measures just 9'6" x 5'6" (body size) with an overall shipping length of just 12'.
She does look a bit dwarfed when surrounded by massive twin axle vans but she is warm, dry and has everything I need. She is often the topic of conversation and other campers are always curious to have a look inside because she is so small.
We have just bought a new sprite lite,we love her.Small is cosy and comfy. She has everything we need.Im not bothered what people think,we love her and thats all that matters
This is our dinky van, towed by a dinky car!
This is a Trigano Silver 31TDL, we originally had a Fleurette Tamaris 31T but treated ourselves to this newer model last year.
It offers all we need & we have an awning if we want some extra room but we don't always use it.
