My caravan has been damaged by the really bad hail storm we had in the Midlands yesterday. The door side has at least a dozen glancing 1cm dents in it and god only knows what the roof looks like.
How would I stand with my caravan insurance? The caravan is actually in storage so would I go through their insurance?
As for insurance, it depends on the terms of storage. I have mine in a storage yard and they advise that I must have my own insurance to store it there, therefore any claims are made on my own insurance. The only time the storage would pay out is if any damage was their fault

I would guess it is your own Insurance. I can't see how a hail storm was the fault of the storage owner unless they promised you a covered area in the event of a hail storm which is highly unlikely ;-)
We were lucky down here, that storm missed us, but I heard it was pouring golf balls.
i was wondering if any caravans were damaged yesterday.sorry about your caravan.feel sure its down to your own insurance co.in phil's words they have done nothing wrong at the storage yard.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
The storage owner has had his insurance company look at my van and he's said they will get me a quote for the repairs. I take it I really need to speak to my insurer first to see what options I have.
Van is only 2 years old and gutted to see these marks all over her.
Some years ago our swift conqueror was damaged by hale stones the roof looked like a golf ball ,we claimed on our insurance and the caravan was written off as a uneconomical repair.i was classed as a act of god.

Oh Blimey!! Now the manufacturers will REALLY have to do some thinking where do we go from here? Armour plated caravans? complete with Tiger tank . . .
------------- Peripheral people don`t have as much excitement but they sure live longer
I had a friend who had as similar experience and like DARKLORD their caravan was also written off. It was only a couple of years old too. It lookied like someone had shot it with a machine gun.
i would think insurance companies would look at hail damage as an act of god and might(stress might) not pay out.
that said im sure the recent flood damage were all covered by insurers so hopefully they will pay out.
defo not the fault of the storage site though
good luck with the repairs

Had a good look around the caravan again on Saturday and the roof has taken a hammering. Dents all over, some of them have to be seen to be believed. Amazing the roof lights did not smash.
Spoke to my insurance and was surprised to be told I will have to phone back again on Monday to speak direct to the broker. Not good service and hope it's not an omen of things to come...
Anyone with a caravan in storage at Bramcote Mains should check their van ASAP.

I asked on another forum for any feedback from Adria owners(with polyester sides and roofs)who live in the hailstone affected area. There has been no reported Adria's affected. Could this be a way forward for other manufacturers. I see bailey are using GRP sides on the Orion!
My Pegasus will have to go back to Bailey for new roof, sides and back panels.
I would have preferred it if they wrote it off but the repair cost is no where near the price of a new van.
When I get my insurance up for renewal it might price me out of caravanning in the future.
Took me a long time to save for my dream van and now i'm wondering why I bothered!

We had a similar thing in France about 3 years ago, just the van roof peppered with small dents but on our return to the uk I had a dealer check for damp and leaks all was ok but the Caravan club insurance gave me the option of having the roof completely replaced or payment in lieu of loss when selling, I took the latter and all has been fine no leaks or other problems.
------------- Never argue with an idiot, they will bring you down to their level then beat you on experience.

We had a 2 year old Adria that was badly damaged by hailstones. Needed a new side panel which was really expensive (cant remember exact cost as around 6 years ago).
If it's any consolation though, the insurers paid without question.
