I am sure that there must have been a previous topic about this but I can't find it. Have any of you/do any of you use a halogen oven? We have just bought our first s/h van, but alas no oven. We are thinking of a halogen oven to use instead. Any for's or againsts, especially amperage, size, heat, etc? Where to put it might be the biggest problem, especially in a small 2-berth like ours.
We have the 7ltr version 1200 watts so around 5amps We treat it as a normal oven this version is big enough for the two of us and is a good gas saver while on hook up It takes a bit longer to cook but.. Ours came with all the bits and a spare bulb Amazon around £35
the only place I would put one would be in the dustbin we have had three, the first one had a hinged lid and when we closed it the oven would not start so that got changed for one with a separate lide that lasted six months and then just stopped working so they changed that one and that lasted 3 months and then although the light etc was on it would not cook so we slung it and but a table top electric oven better buy cooks our breakfast, roasts, 10 inch pizzas and does not use a lot of power.Would never buy another halogen oven.

I guess you were just unlucky - I've had no problems with mine and have used it nearly every day for the last two years.
How could it not cook if the light was on - the light is the heat source in mine.
I have used a halogen oven in the past but after problems with heating element failing I purchased a Remoska and now would never use anything else. They are only 470W and therefore will happily work on a low ampere supply such is found on some sites and often in France and Italy. The food is always moist and does not char food like the halogens ovens are prone to doing (at least with my less than professional cooking style). I rarely use the main oven at home or when in caravan now and if camping I rarely need to use gas except for boiling water for a brew.

wouldn't bother as same problems as above .however we tend to use a slow cooker these days ,put it on in morning and return after a nice day out to a nicely cooked meal .saves all the hassle when your tired

I lreally rate the halogen oven and use it most days at home. I often use it instead of the grill as I hate cleaning the grill pan, Mine has clocked up some miles as I take it camping and in the caravan, It is at least for years old and has been trouble free. I bought it from a bagain shop so it's not JML or any known brand.
However, my sister in law bought the JML oven and hates it. I am hoping she will donate it to me as a spare.
I have recently acquired a halogen oven and have found it's very useful in the house as it saves turning the main oven on and is very quick.
But it's far too big and heavy to go in my little van, and it won't do toast - so I use a mini cheapy Poundstretcher oven when away. Plenty big enough for me for TV dinners etc, and it does toast (although takes a while) so no need to take a toaster as well. The only problem is I've lost the baking tray that came with it and can't find another small enough to fit!

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
Paid only £35 for our halogen oven in B&M. We've had it 8 months now and it's used twice a day. No problems whatsoever. If it broke now, I'd get another one straight away.
Too buly for the caravan though.
