Just back from a great site near Tavistock but loads of problems with the wifi service from the above who cover this and other sites. Really poor signal and bandwidth, connection drop outs all the time and this when the site was very quiet.

£12 for a week and only for one device at a time too - think hard before you buy if you want more than a quick check of emails.

As I use BT at home I can also use BTWIFI or BTFUN as it was called.

Providing that there are some house's within a kilometre or so I can usually find someone who is with BT and log onto their server.by using a booster aerial.

Ratty, I think you have to use a "BT Wi-fi hotspot" not somebody elses private server. I know I would not be happy if you jumped on mine but then again I have it password protected.

It's up to you whether you opt in to BTWIFI or not, if you do then your home wifi router sends out three separate signals, your own which you can protect with a pasword, BTWIFI and BTFON. It's the second two which anyone can use.

I was on a site in North Yorkshire two weeks ago and I picked up 4 separate routers to log onto.

It's not illegal all BT customers have the choice to opt in or out. If you opt in you can use any BT router where the owner has opted in. It is fully secure and does not disrupt the owners service. It is surprising how many households have opted in and provides a handy wifi network all over the UK.

Correct, and nobody is talking about logging onto somebodies server. They are talking about logging onto their BT Wifi Spot, just maybe not worded the best way.

Cheers Ratty

We have been to Tavistock a few times, it depends on which pitch you are on, we have always tried to get into the second field in the top right hand corner and have always had internet without any problems. We do have a BT account.

We use one of these in other places

Internet is very handy when away.
It's not all about email.
Finding out about places to visit, opening times, prices. Phone numbers, Sailing times, ferries , Booking fishing trips and theaters / shows , Ordering takeaways, Maps , campsites, shopping etc.
Also handy for internet TV NEWS and WEATHER.

Some people like to be totally away from it all. Some like to be cut off from the outside world but some want something else.

Last holiday , we saved our grown up kids £40 in petrol by looking on the internet and finding a theme-park they were going to that day was closed unexpectedly .

Camping to the ex.tent that I like awnings as a bit on the side.
