Just been up to check the caravan in storage and I noticed many of the other caravans have small wooden blocks underneath the feet of the corner steadies. They all already had plastic pads attached to the steadies.
I understand on soft ground you should spread the load, but this is on hard standing !
What are these blocks of wood supposed to be doing ?
Is it just a case of one person does it, so everyone else follows ?
Am I missing the point here ?

No point at all in this practice imho ! also see the same with jockey wheels on hard standings.
The plastic feet move on hardstanding (stones)unless its like a fine ash.I use wood under the plastic feet on my van as the wood seems to bite into the stones.
If you just lower the feet on the stones the stones seem to shift from under them, this is caused with movement in the van. This is the same with the jockey wheel which will also sink on soft ground like grass.
Jeff, I could agree with your point if the vans in use, but Clever's observation is of vans in storage, so one would assume no movement.
I can't see any reason whatsoever in the use of the blocks while the 'van isin storage, other than perhaps those who've done this have done so purely out of habit.
They do move paul, even if the van is in storage.I didnt use wood under them when i first got them and found, when i collected the van from storage, the legs were not as tight as when i put them down.

Never had this, in 18yrs of vanning etc, unless stored on soft ground !!
Packing 1 or more blocks under steadies does prevent them being wound down too vertical. I always think if the steadies are wound nearly vertical they are more stressed, but I might be wrong.
My caravan is in storage and although the ground is firm it is very stoney indeed mainly for drainage purposes. One of my plastic feet cracked due to not being flat on the ground as there must have been a large stone underneath but then noticed that the majority of caravans have these wooden blocks underneath. Because the plastic feet can only be purchased in packs of four I replaced them all with new ones and decided to use wooden blocks underneath to which the feet now feel more sturdy. So in view of this, if the caravan feet are not flat then they are unstable to which the caravan is likely to move slightly in windy conditions and also when you occassionally visit and enter the van. After using the wooden blocks I found the caravan didn't rock as much as previous so the verdict is that these wooden blocks do work but I'm not bothered who actually uses them and who don't as long as they work for me. You find out solutions from talking to others and from your own experience but doing it because others do it may have a constructive reason why this happens not just because some narrow minded folk that we are just a load of sheep.
Each to their own, I sometime`s place a house brick under my corner steadies even though it`s all flagged out with thick 3x2 ex council flagstones don`t see what`s wrong/problem with that. I park up my van in my own compound how I please as long as it`s safe/and secure.
I would suggest force of habit when used in storage. I too have had my plastic feet crack across the centre like Tango's, they aren't strong enough to support the weight without bending, on soft ground especially. The wooden block supports and distridutes the load better and it does beg the question, why did I bother to buy the plastic feet!!
Mummy my feet are wet with all this rain....Mummy my feet are cold with all this snow.....don't worry baby I will put your feet on nice warm wood to keep you out of the snow and rain.....you take care darling and in the spring we will go out together again.
We all look after our baby in different ways. If it works for you stick some wood under their toes....

The caravan shops may hunt you down for loss of business for daring to post such a thread. I'm trying to think what other things I have that I don't need.
