Hi all, we're new to caravanning and at the moment we are storing the caravan at my parents house. This is great and they have the room , but they don't have a dropped kerb. While our caravan is light and easy to man handle, I'm worried about causing damage while bumping it up the kerb. Can anyone recommend any ramps that would help? Any advice gratefully received. Thank you very much.
What a good idea - we already have those ramps - other half bought them when he went on a mad new caravanner spree! I had been looked at ramps on the internet for around £150. Cheers.
Best way to get a caravan over a kerb....................apply to the Local Authority for a dropped kerb to be constructed and then get a contractor, approved of b ythe Local Authority, to do the work for you. It's illegal to driver over a kerb unless you put dropped kerbs in.
I know, I know, not the kind of information anyone wants to hear......but it only takes one complaint from someone who doesn't like a caravan in someone's garden.............it happens..........and I assume you want a legal way to do it

Each Local Authority have their own charges for approving the works. Then there is the contractors costs. That cost depends upon how wide the crossing is/how many kerbs you take out. Possibly £1000 minimum I suspect. Anyway, here is one Local Authority's costs

Thanks for the detailed advice-much appreciated. Seems an awful lot of money for not much work. We have lowered kerb at our property but there are more cars parked in my road which could make it a little more difficult. Again - thanks for the information. Lisa
The fine for driving over the kerb to get into your property can be up to £1000. The reason for needing dropped kerbs is becasue there may be services in the path and which would need to be protected by specific construction works.

I love the way you always invent worst case scenarios.....Just back caravan over kerb using ramps as suggested & in 99.999% of cases everybody is happy, theres no damage to pavement & nobody complains. The op had all the info they asked for by post 3......
