i have just had a interesting conversation regarding puncture repairs with the RAC ,have full top grade recovery from the them that comes with my car insurance .and if for instance the car clutch burned out they would recover car and caravan .
but it seems in a case of a puncture or blow out to the caravan they will not attend ,this is also policy with green flag rescue as i asked them to.
apparently this ruling has only been in force for a year or so but is fact .
it now seems that with the RAC at least you have to join the camping and caravan club and then notify the RAC that your with them quoting a joining discount code to enable roadside caravan attendance .i feel quiet annoyed about it and luckily i,m not with either club at the moment but this is definetly a need to know subject .
its bad news if you didn't know and had a blow out or puncture in transit
whoever your car roadside assistance is with its worth checking with them to .
This would because it is the caravan that has broken down not the car. It would be the same if a wheelbearing or anything else had failed on the caravan. If the car has broken down then they will either fix car beside roadside or recover car & anything it is towing.

Autonational will come out regardless if it's car or caravan that breaks down.I've been with them for nearly 20 years and needed them a couple of times, one of which was for the caravan. Superb service for £64 per year complete with home start etc but not European cover which is available for a few quid extra. I also understand they consider a puncture/blowout a valid brekdown....Mick
the reason i brought this up is the last time i had a blowout on a caravan was around five years ago ,i was then with green flag and they fixed it with no problem ,it seems however in the intervening years that most of them have had a change of policy .
if i hadn't enquired re caravan recovery whilst changing my car cover today i would have carried on blissfully ignorant until something went wrong ,thinking that i was covered when i fact i wasn't .so PLEASE READ THE SMALL PRINT .and if unsure check with your recovery that you are indeed covered .
the only other real niggle would have been if i had been with the caravan club as RAC only recognise the caravan and camping club .so lots of snags for the unwary in there
thats the reason I use the CC Mayday they will come ou regardless whether its car or van and if they cant sort it they will transport you to your prebooked site and if need be take you home again after your holiday
it will be a case of joining the caravan and camping club for me ,its the only way to get the cover i need thats compatible with the RAC .
as i said earlier i feel a bit bullied into this and its a extra expense on top of my normal car recovery fees ,suppose its all part of rip off britain culture these days .
the worrying part being if i had not queried it i would have carried on regardless thinking i was fully covered in case of a caravan puncture
Yep agreed but they will NOT come out to a caravan puncture ,I asked yesterday .
And BTW that link is NOT for normal green flag ,it's for mayday for which you have to belong to the caravan club .dont be lulled into a false sense of security ,once it happens and your not covered its to late ,you have to pay what they ask
rac do an caravan/trailer tent/campervan breakdown cover think its about £10 a month and ya get a free year's membership with caravan nd camping club not sure what their cover will include but could be worth a look
------------- it was broke before i touched it........... honest :)
If you have RAC breakdown cover provided through a lease/fleet company (not sure if this applies if provided through an insurance company) you can extend the cover to include a "towed non motorised vehicle". You do not have to be a C&CC member but if you are you get a discount. It might be worth ringing the RAC corporate team and asking if you can extend the cover to include the caravan or trailer.

AA cover caravans or trailers you are towing...
Yes, I asked them specifically about this when I renewed my cover with them, especially about their attendance if towing and a caravan wheel had punctured. They had to go away and check whilst I was on the phone, and I had said that if they didn't, then I would go elsewhere for cover. They assured me that in this case, the caravan would also be covered.
I am with ASDA breakdown and they came out and fixed my caravan puncture, put on spare wheel then brought the repaired tyre back. They have also fixed the electrics on my caravan when my external lights blew when one of the rear lights was knocked off by a passing lorry. both happened in the scottish highlands in the middle of no where and I have nothing but praise for their service. It did take a bit of research and black fox is right buyer beware and check the small print.
