c. To avoid the spread of fire, there must be at least 6 metres spacing between facing walls of adjacent caravans, motorhomes or trailer tents and a minimum clear space of 3 metres between adjoining outfits in any direction.

Think 20 ft was the rule for both clubs until it was metricated and rounded down (very slightly) to 6 metres.
Regarding privately owned/managed sites ie not affiliated to or certificated by the Clubs, as far as I know 6m is only a recommendation, subject possibly to the conditions of their licence, insurers etc.
I would guess its all down to insurance and fire risk, how near fire hydrants are from caravans might chance things, on site wardens who have training, all different things could change the insurance regs.
Theres a difference between 'legal requirement', campsite or club rules & also insurance requirements, ie the last 2 are not 'legal requirements'. If your caravan was damaged in a fire for example by another adjacent caravan going up in flames I would think your own insurance would pay up for your caravan no probs as there is nothing in caravan insurance t&c's that state that you cannot park close to another caravan.
well I don't think they are with either clubs now...but it was very close...needless to say we won't be going there again...all money grabbing I think..I took s photo ..but haven't worked out how to put it on here.

On the site I have a seasonal there is a stipulated distance between vans. This is in the licence rules apparently, owner was very strict on this as inspectors from the council come around and check. Borrowed a tape off him to make sure we were in the right position. Think it was 18ft between vans.

The legal framework under which Cl's and Cs's are "certified" also contains the spacing requirement as do most, if not all licences granted for the operation of commercial sites.
Had a similar issue on a commercial site once which was caused by the adjacent unit not pitching within their allotted area due to a mud patch which would have been in their awning. Wardens made them move. Was it a one-off situation in your case or were all pitches that close together?

It's pretty easy to upload a pic to your gallery through the members only bit.
Whatever the rules, it can't be nice being stuck right next to someones awning virtually rubbing up against your windows. How inconsiderate is that.
definitely not 18 ft between vans...on the side we were on pitches very close...opposite side had more privacy and space..when we questioned the distance we were asked if we wanted to move....us...and we had been there a full 24 hrs before...I'll try again with putting on a pic

from a fire risk assesment 3 foot is not enough and would be supprised that the fire service have ok this there should be a copy of the risk assesment for people to view at all times
As well is two words!

In 2005 we stopped at Ardlui at the top end of Loch Lommond,we were directed to what I thought was the car park, but this was where the caravan was pitched. There were spaces on either side of our caravan so I presumed these were to be the gap between the caravans,we went out in the car and when we came back there were caravans on both sides of ours. There was about 2 feet between the caravans,I have more room at my caravan storage.,unbelievable but true. The toilets were a disgrace, badly in need of refurbishment.I do not know if it is still the same there now as we vowed never to go back there.
