Our mates have just aquired a little Abbey 2 berth caravan. Whilst cleaning it all through my mate bunged a load of neat bleach down the bowl of the cassette toilet and left it in there.
I told her I didn't think that was a good idea and that maybe you should only be using approved chemicals?
Has she potentially damaged her loo? Or will it be ok?
virtually guarantee it wont have damaged it . but far better to not use anything .let nature do it for you . read some of the other posts /threads on toilets .
yes too strong for the seals i use milton to clean mine out now and then.PLUS it is not a good idea to mix chemicals unless you know what you are doing.strong bleach and blue additive may not mix.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

yes i know but is does the job and cleans out the toilet cassette each year very clean, after advice from thetford at a show you can also use milton to clean your header tank, that was before thetford tank cleaner.plus after cleaning i wash out with clean water so no bleach is left in the tanks.

houses use plastic pipes these days . mine as had plastic pipes for the last 26 years . better as they dont freeze and leak as easy as copper.
mind i,m not in favour of putting bleach etc in the toilet.
If it still works, its ok. Theres no need to put bleach down them, the toilet chemicals do the cleaning, just rinse out with water. Spray the rubber parts with silicone spray.
Because the vans previous owners was a load of workmen my freind got all paranoid about strange man poo germs lurking about and went mad with the bleach
There are no seals in the bottom of the cassette so shouldn't have done any damage. I wouldn't want to use it unless the bleach has been thoroughly rinsed out though.
Sodium Hypochloride (the base of most bleaches) will release chlorine gas on contact with acid (urine can be acidic) which will cause the contents to fizz up as you may have seen after using the toilet with bleach in.
While in a WC this will just fizz up and smell a bit, in a cassette, it could pressurise and when the blade is opened, blow back up into the bowl.

Well now I can't stop laughing at all - kaboom and the germs are gone!!!
She poured it in via the top, will that make any difference? I will warn her about the fizzing thing. Shes got two little boys the last thing she wants is bleach singed willies or bums.
The'van is parked right next to a wall so can't get the cassette out at the moment and have pured a load of water in to dilute it for the minute.
best is when you climb the mountains abroad or somewhere. spain is best .off ferry drive off up the mountains . stop rush to toilet . have a real good pee. bend to open the flap and as you do it whop. pee every where .
not happened to me but a mate . we had to stop longer while he had a shower. makes a good campfire story. exploding toilets .hee hee

Get it out as soon as you can, don't leave it too long... and remember to rinse the cassette asap before you go away with the boys.
