As some of you may know i am looking at buying my 1st caravan. After looking at several caravans i came across what seemed like a fantastic caravan at a fab price on the caravan club website. I emailed asking if i could view and received a reply saying i couldnt view because she doesnt like people coming to her home after losing her husband 2 months ago and that she is letting the caravan go at a good price because she is behind with her mortgage payments. She then said if i had the money she would list it on ebay and once she had received the money she would then deliver the caravan to me. I did reply saying i would need to see the caravan first but again she said no and that if i wasnt happy i could get a refund from ebay?? Not sure how true that is but am i right to be wary??
Totally unacceptable and should be reported to CC, sounds very dodgy and even if its not it is totally unreasonable to seek a sale without a viewing, anyone buying under these circumstances would be off their rocker!

I think I'd be looking elsewhere for my caravan if I were you, she may indeed be genuine but can you afford to take the risk, personally I'd be walking away from this one, lots of other, less risky options out there
------------- no tin tent outings booked as yet ,just another cruise in Sept' booked so far
I would walk away and not touch this with a barge pole, even if the individual is a bit sensitive at this time she is being a totally unrealistic with sale conditions.
As suggested a quick heads up to the CC would not go wrong just in case this is one of these scammers we see to much of these days.
Do you really need to ask? Its pretty obvious that you don't pay anything without seeing caravan. There are 100s of variations of this scam but they all rely on somebody being daft enough to pay upfront sight unseen, how anybody falls for this I really don't know. There are much more sophisticated versions as well involving fake websites & paypal scams etc. But basically, view caravan, ascertain seller is genuine, pay cash & tow away is best way for a private sale.
Also if you are paying a fair bit you need to do a Cris check to ensure seller has legal title to caravan. If you buy a stolen one you risk losing the lot.
This remind me of my neighbours buying a 'pedigree' dog. Couldn't see the dog beforehand, on day supposed to collect from address suddenly the seller wasn't going to be there and HAD to meet them at a random petrol garage.
The dog is supposed to be a JRT and it had a curly tail and 6 toes.
