Hello all , recently got a second hand caravan , it's on our drive until we sort storage. Our neighbour who has one car lives alone and has a pretty big drive has decided (never has before) to park directly where we would need to come off our drive with the van , it's a bank holiday weekend and we think he's playing games tbh - he won't answer his door so if we were planning on leaving tonight or in the morning were stuck - has anyone had similar problems and what can we do, obviously he's free to park where he likes
Someone had parked on the road where the dropped kerb was when we needed to get the F.C out. Couldn't find out who owned it. Rang the Police who tracked them down using the car reg. Result was car moved in 15 minutes. If it's blocking your drive with a dropped kerb ring the police

Ask a couple of mates round who don't need to use their cars for a few days, one of them parks within 50mm of his front bumper, the other within 50mm of his rear bumper. He will soon get the message, especially if he needs to be somewhere
He is not free to block your driveway & you can park your caravan on your driveway if wish if you don't want to pay for storage. I'd take some photos of his car blocking your drive & go from there. Or if you mean he is not actually blocking your drive but making it difficult to tow it off your drive then provided he has left you enough room to get your car out you should be able to push caravan off drive & hitch up in the road.
If you show you are not bothered by his silly games, then he will probably give up.
When we came here we dropped a note to the neighbours to tell them we would have a van and that it would be on the drivfe for a limited period of time and not be stored here. One neighbour dropped me anote moaning about caravans and complaining aboutr van owners being gypsies. Great start to life in a new place. But I had done my homeworkl So.....i dropped a note back telling him again re the short stay element of the van on the drive and a summary of the law re parking a caravan. I later on I parked the van in the corner spot outside the house and got a complaint from another neighbour. Then a neighbour who used to caravan said I could park on her double drive - so I did. Never heard from him again. But I made a point of saying hello everytime I saw him.
Years later he ended up asking for help a few times including in the middle of the night - a few months before he died. He was most humble in his approach to me.
Moral - confront but do not be aggressive. You have every right to own a caravan and to put it on your drive whenever you want to./
let his tyres down, shove a spud up the exhaust or my personal favourite pour brine from a tin of tuna down the vents at the front of the car. i used to have a drop kerb at my old house,a neighbour persisted in blocking me as she was too fat and lazy to park 3 yards further up the road(and i mean 3 yards)so,some tuna brine down the vent, and miraculously my driveway was never blocked again when i left for work in the morning

I'm a Fifer, my usual problem is that I live in a cul-de-sac. To get my caravan in my drive I have to drive to the top of the cul-de-sac to turn around. Sometimes the turning circle is full of cars. It is not a car park, it is a turning circle. I find that reversing the caravan around the parked cars, usually inches away gets the car owners scurrying out to move their cars. My caravan is a 20 year old veteran I have maintained and improved for 4 years, their cars are one year old youngsters they haven't even started to own even though they say "that's my car"
I was once told that it is not an affence to park outside a drive/dropped kerd as its not a public highway BUT doing so causes a public disturbence. This the police must solve the easiest way, in this case forceing your next door neighbour to move his car.
So just phone the police, be Carefull not to phone them to much though as they will start to think that you are the problem.
Or just push it out the way with a old car you don't care about or a freind with a landrover or sumthing.

AFAIK, it isn't.
However, you have a right of access to your own property. So does everyone else.
What a drop kerb does is turn that from an implicit right of access to an explicit one. I think it also deals with some issues with granting you permission to drive over the council owned pavement etc as well.
So it isn't an offense to park there - right up until someone needs to use it. The offense is to obstruct it.
Hope that makes some sense - and standard 'this is the internets, your mileage might vary and I might be mistaken' disclaimers apply.
------------- My opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it.
We had a similar problem here and in the end calked the police who kindly came with the rules wrighten down for the know it all next door. If the car/van or what ever is obstructing you from leaving your drive its breaking the law but. But if the drive is empty and you want to park in your drive its tuff. There has to be a car van caravan or trailer on the drive for it to be illegal to block it. An empty drive does not count. Unless. The drop kerb is used by a disabled person on a regular basis to cross the road I which case you can pop a sign up saying disabled access needed 24 7 and then the police can keep it clear with or without anything on the drive
If the car causing the problem is parking across or too the dude but blocking your excite. There's nothing you can do but unhook and push the caravan which we do most of the time. As there are 13 cars/ vans in the 3 house round us but only 6 drivers. so there's always lots if cars in the street

It's nice to be important but its more important to be nice

I agree, sound advice.
Although I also think he's a prat! Some ppl have such sad lives...
I live by a school, so I tend to go out and come back at weekends, preferably Sunday to Sunday. I have to wait for approx 3/4 of an hour if I mis-time either going or coming back and park miles away if I go on a weekday when the kids are at school, the road is blocked from top to bottom.
It used to drive me insane that our neighbour parked his van on the drive, for years nothing grew in the garden and our kitchen was always dark. It was a joy when they went away for the weekend.
Bang it until he does . . .tap ojn his windows . . he`s being awkward.; find out what he`s about. If you can`t come to an arrangement, the police may have to be contacted. Good luck . .
