Hi, can anybody recommend a cleaning product for getting rid of the diesel exhaust spots on the front of their caravans, the exhaust on my previous 4x4 terminated downwards towards the road so there never was a problem, however I now have a V6 diesel and both pipes terminate horizontally straight at the caravan and the stuff is a real pain to get off, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Go to a motor factors and ask for TFR traffic film remover. It's what he professionals use. Cheaper than the off the shelf stuff should be about £10 gallon.
We clean our caravan with Mer, which leaves a finish that makes cleaning off any diesel residue fairly simple. Sometimes I spray the area with silicone lubricant, which easily cleans this and also tar spots.
Bertie.
have the egr valve cleaned out on the 300c and put some paint protector on the front of the van, i use scotts paintseal and it makes wiping the oily residue off quite easy.
------------- uhhm!!! lets take it to bits..see how it should work..lol
Try a spray lube like WD40, spray some on a rag and wipe the effected area.
Try first in an inconspicuous area as some surfaces may stain!
This works well with tar as well and is normally found in any mans shed.
Slightly off topic, but the cause is that you rev the engine higher in lower gears when towing, blowing the built up reside from the exhaust. If you drive it like a hire car for a few minutes before hitching up, you can clean it through beforehand. This is also a major cause of mot failures of the smoke test, so its worth doing before taking it for mot too.
