Currently going through the agro of changing bottles from old blue butuane to a lighter version. Always used Calor and was going down that route but then thought the BP may be a better option as you can see the gas level.
However, a fellow member thinks there may be availability issues with these too. I like the idea of being able to go to a local homebase to pick it up as it's convenient.
I appreciate the shortages may be due to peak useage time and I probably won't change until September ish time.
If you change over to Calor-Lite from the standard steel cylinders they also have a level indicator on the top to show how full the cylinder is. They are more expensive than the steel ones but you have to shop around as I have found a difference of as much as £4 for a refill. The normal price for a 6 kg. cylinder is around £21.99.
Hi i have 2 10kg bottles, i at home for bbq and patio heater and 1 in the van, i need a refill now so when i get a new bottle that will go in the van and the van one home for the bbq.
I think their great no need for a indicator just look at the bottle to see what you have left. I'm sure it works out cheaper for the gas aswell and the bottle are is really light
Be aware that they are NOT available anywhere else in Europe (although there is supposed to be a French type which will fit the same regulator), in case you go abroad.

That was my thoughts Bessie. Do you have 1 or 2 bottles out of interest? Thinking I may just use one now I have a van with an external gas bbq point.
I use 1 10kg bottle in the van, i also use a external gas point to run my cadac off, i do however use quite a long gas hose as i dont want it to near my awning.

If you have a Go Ourdoors card I only paid £19.80 for a Calor Lite refill the other day.

I have three 10kg BP Gaslight bottles. When going to France, we take two full ones. In the UK, I just take one, and exchange it whilst on hol. if it starts off very low.
At home, when BBQing in the garden, we use the bottle(s) with the least amount of gas left, and run them out on the Cadac.
Bertie.
I use the now ex BP 10 kgs bottles. Get my exchanges from my local Homebase on 15% off day [as I did the bottle] or if in a rush my local gas agent.
Never had a problem getting it, which is more than I found with Calor-lites. Go Camping in Bedford were displaying an "out of stock" sign only on Friday last, so it appears that availability issue is still with us.
If you get the 27mm clip-on with the elbow take off rather than side take off, it fits the French le cube should you ever be in real need for more gas in France.
cheers all, i will be going for 1 bottle for the van and running the cadac off the external point hopefully, that said my 2nd butane bottle will probably do the cadac for now.
I am assuming a 10kg BP bottle would be lighter than a full 7kg old style bottle, or at least the same?
Note BP light is Propane, but the Calor etc 7kg blue bottles are Butane.
A 10 Kg BP light has an empty bottle weight of 5.3 KGs; so full it is 15.3 kgs.
A 7 kg Blue calor Butane bottle has an empty [Tare] weight of 9 to 10 kgs depending on its age; so full weighs 16 to 17 kgs.
