Got Patsy the Provence back from service yesterday, and there was a strange note on the paperwork. It said they had found blue chem in the top tank, and had flushed it out. They then said if we used blue chem in the top tank we would wreck the pump.
I'm a bit baffled. We use Elsan Organic which is blue, and says it is for top and bottom. I don't always measure accurately. We had to replace the pump in the summer. Any ideas or advice?
If it says its ok for top & bottom then presumably it is. Most makes of blue stuff arn't & those makes supply pink for the top. Your workshop was certainly correct to bring it to your attention though as they have no way of knowing the make of liquid in the tank.
Whether your failed pump was related to using the multi purpose liquid, I don't know but perhaps better to use your remaining blue liquid in bottom tank & get some pink for the top.
We use the Organic because the Pink & Blue both smell awful; and remind us of a bygone age where the toilet smelt from all angles, making my mrs queezy. New Green one smells like hair gel.

Educate your service person?
Exactly.

How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
We went with Elsan for the same reasons as you CP+O, all the other stuff smells 'orrible, and the Elsan is reasonably OK. We have had the van just about 12 months, could be the replacement pump in the summer would have had to have been done anyway due to a previous issue we didn't know about (?)
I don't want to mix pink with it, as it clearly states on the bottle that it should be used top and bottom.
Caravanstuff4U had a good offer on it a few months ago - I stocked up and now have enough to last for about the next 5 years !!
You are right to say the service dude needs educating: the note read "the pink gose in the top tank..." Bless. He did a good service tho and didn't rip us off, so who's complaining?!
Just thought - OH did try to educate the service dude in Elsan Organic -type matters, but he wasn't interested. In fact he was adamant it wasn't suitable for top and bottom. Hence my bafflement.

Bit boring
Sorry. I didn't realise I was supposed to be entertaining. Try the Jokes forum, you might get a bit of a grin there.

Elsan make a Blue and Pink liquid which I always use because it smells nicer and having a full bottle of Blue at home I have just read the instructions on the back. It states never to use Elsan Blue in the fresh water tank which as Elsan is a toilet chemical it is defined as not to use it in the top tank where you add the fresh flush water. This is because Elsan make the Pink liquid designed specially to add to the fresh water so the service engineer was quite right with his inspection. Elsan probably do manufacture a chemical top and bottom tank but it definitely won't be blue. It will be a green liquid which some camp sites will only allow and that is the only reason why you can only use it in both tanks so all the green liquid is contained in the bottom waste tank with no other chemicals. The blue liquid is designed to break down waste and the harsh chemical will in time destroy any rubber components within the toilet sealing system.
I think we already knew the bit about not putting Thetford blue in the top tank, as it has been mentioned in umpteen other posts on the subject.
