We have a Lunar Clubman SB, purchased May 2013. We had a blow out in France Sept 2013 and would be interested to see if any members know of any problems with the following tyres.
Kargomax 185R14. Made in China. Supplied as new on Lunar Caravans.

The surest way to get a blow out is to run under inflated. The tyre gets hot, starts to delaminate then bang.
Shouldn't that be phfffffffftttt if its under inflated?
My blow out/puncture/flat. was on the m5 about 120 miles after I had checked the tyre pressure. the tyre was ten years old. so that proves old tyre's are good. until there not. as for Kargomax 185R14 i am sure they are as good as anything else on the market.

i have been running some federal ecovan tyres for 5years on my trailer . they are chinese . seem ok and almost at 40,000mls now . had a hard life going off road in morocco etc . at 35 quid each .i think they are great. mine were 195x14 on my artic trailer .
The fact their made in China is nothing to do with it?
It is the buyer that dictates the quality by the price they are willing to pay!
Kargomax then is a trade name of GT, an American company,
Federal is Tiwannesse with Bridgestone and Dunlop support.
Anyone then worried about quality of stuff made in China may be surprised to know,(as of 10yrs ago so perhaps more or less now), 85% of all makes of cars steering gear is made in China!!
& yet whenever we hear of premature failures of caravan tyres, its never a premium tyre like Michelin or Goodyear, its always an obscure make we have never heard of. If we bought a brand new Ford Escort we would expect it to be fitted with a known make of premium tyres & yet oddly, brand new caravans seem to be fitted with what would be described as 'budget' tyres.
Edit...Ford Focus of course not Escort but new Escorts were generally fitted with Michelin or Goodyear tyres back in the 70s. In them days 'budget' tyres were remoulds.

This may tell you more about the diligence of people who buy well known makes of tyres!
And possibly about their available funds to replace them?

This thread is not about owners fitting cheap tyres to an existing caravan. It appears that a major caravan manufacturer is fitting budget tyres to new 'vans.
I recall there was a problem with a little known make fitted to new caravans a few yrs ago that were also failing prematurely.
I was pointing out that an 18k new car has premium well known make tyres, an 18k caravan appears to have the sort of budget brand tyre we would buy from Kwikfit for a 10yr old car.
Presumably the caravan maker negotiates a price for a bulk supply of tyres & obviously budget brands will be half the cost of premium brands. I find it odd that caravans are unecessarily fitted with alloy wheels when steel wheels would do the job at less than half the price & then cheap tyres are fitted to them.
The argument that cheap tyres are as good as premium brands can continue with the cheapie fans pointing out that many budget brands are owned by major premium tyre manufacturers but we come back to the earlier point that failures of fairly new caravan tyres as posted on here over the yrs do seem to be budget brands.
There are a lot of newer manufacturers of tyres on the market now some of them owned by the so called premium brands.
If people wish to pay premium prices for what they perceive to be premium products then that is their choice.
As above under-inflation or over loading or foreign object far far more likely to be cause or running in hot temps for excessive time maybe.
Speculation and generalisations are always a dangerous thing without knowing the facts. Maybe OP would update if a nail etc was found in tyre?
Yes, it would help if op supplied full details of incident include state of tyre, ie was it an actual 'blowout' with damage to caravan body etc as it might be useful info for owners of similar caravans with those tyres.
