We've owned our current caravan for just over three months and have only managed two weekends and a fortnight away in it - mostly, I think, because we've simply got the layout totally wrong. We used our previous van loads more than that over the last couple of summers and were really excited when we upgraded to this one, but after our latest weekend away we've admitted that neither of us have somehow taken to it.
So, we've tentatively put it on the market this week - but both of us are still wondering whether we should have given ourselves more time to get used to it, and whether we are behaving like spoilt kids over what is essentially a tin box with a passport to family fun - just a means to an end!
Gah! I hate decisions like this!! Has anyone here started off disliking their van for whatever reason, then come round to loving it in the end? If so, how long did it take?!
We had the same thing with a motorhome a couple of months ago. I just couldn't put my finger on what I didn't like about it, the layout was exactly right, everything worked well, plenty of space, economical to run etc. Even when I went in it showing potential buyers round, I wondered if it was the right thing to do (it was in the end, I've got a lovely little van now, which was the one I wanted in the first place).
I think sometimes you just get feelings about things and I prefer to go with those feelings these days, I've been talked out of things so many times in the past and regretted it.
Hope you make the right decision.

If you are both feeling the same and can afford it then go for it. Life is to short to be justifying any decisions to anyone else but you!
Just try and identify what it is about the layout you don't like. If you are using it usually a lot (which it sounds like you are if two weeks and a couple of weekend in 3 month is NOT a lot!) its important to be happy
I was going to say there was someone else with this dilemma not that long ago. Then I realised it was you WR.
There really is no point in hanging onto something that makes you unhappy. At the end of the day it will just waste your money sitting there doing nothing, so you may as well get something that you will use.
It was that large end washroom in your old 'van that did it. Something that makes you feel self contained, gives privacy and independence in a way that a wet room or even a side washroom can't match.
I think it is a problem of change . No likes change. I felt the same when we change our van. First we down sized to an2 berth . Lovely van but needed to get used to the lay out .
We have changed again last year and up sized . I did feel in a panic at first and thought what have we done more to tow more to manouvre when storing . Then the daunting thought of towing etc. I didn't look forward to going away and was disliking the van completely. Although I loved the lay out . We hardly used it last year. However this year we have and are getting used to it . I do most of the towing as my oh panics. The layout is very comfortable I do like it.
So maybe give it another try then make the decision .

Yes, even those who know and love me will admit that my decision-making tends to be of the long drawn out, public dithering variety! However, at least this time I've taken the step of actually listing it!
Thank you all for your thoughts - reading what other people say does always help me clarify my thinking.
JayC001 - it's not that the layout is actively preventing us from using it, it's just making us generally a bit dissatisfied and discontented when we're in the van, and so less inclined to plan to use it! Al+Mel have it exactly right (and could probably have predicted this post three months ago ;-) For us, a big spacious bathroom is key :-)
If your not into winter vanning, and a new van is going to sit in storage anyway, why not hold of until the spring? Give it a wash and clean inside and get more for it? Just a though for you to maybe ponder

Help i need to sell my parents touring caravan as they are now both deceased. I don't know much about caravans so could use some help please. The caravan is a touring van an abbey gt 212 two birth. Im not sure how old it is i suspect proberbly late 1980's. How much should i sell it for there will be extras with it eg. Toilet, awning. etc. Many thanks.
Hi V - I'm not sure I know the answer, but have you tried looking at the completed listings on eBay to give you a bit of a guide? Its a bit hard to know with such an old van, but you could always try putting it on here, Preloved and Gumtree for £500 or whatever for free and see if you get any interest? Might be better doing it next Easter though, or when the season starts again...?
It might also be worth starting a new thread in here to ask that - you might get more interest/opinions if people see your topic?
Good luck!!
Fife-bloke - yes, you could be right as the market would definitely be better when the weather starts to improve - though we do plan to use it at half term and bonfire night so it'd be nice to have a new one for then :-)

Quasar FB 615? As pointed out by someone helpful, right in my favourite local dealer's? How did you guess ? Yup - if someone else doesn't get it in the meantime!
Ooh I could have wrote this post myself! Neither myself or hubby can take to our new caravan & we've only had 2 weekends in it. Not even had it a month yet but want to sell it on. Nothing wrong with it, just don't like the layout. We feel claustrophobic in it with the large bathroom on the side & wide kitchen. What layout do you have? We had an end bathroom model & thought it was wasting space, but looking back now it was actually really good compared to some others we've had. We are going back to a continental van. You just can't beat them for space. It was me that talked hubby into selling our hobby, thinking if we got an "English" van we could tour where we liked once our seasonal pitch is finished. Hubby reluctantly agreed but said he's not having any other van than a crusader superstorm. Once we got it & had our 1st weekend away in it the arguments started. It just feels too narrow. We are going away in it again this weekend with all 5 kids (we normally only take 3 or 4 at the most as eldest is 18) & I'm dreading it! They all want to come be because its Butlins. I think we'll just stay out on the complex all day & just sleep in it.
