Right... The leak has been patched. The delamination has been fixed... the external electric socket has been put in. The gas fire serviced and painted. A new proper mattress at the rear instead of the cushions (what a difference!) (double double layout)

To while away the dark winter nights I am thinking, what else can I do to make our little caravan more comfortable, exciting, interesting?

Apart from a jaccuzzi or a balcony, any one got any practical ideas or suggestions (no rude ones) or even what you would like to see in your caravans...

I will wait with baited breath!!! 17

Some led lighting with dimer switches, or the remote leds with dimer option.

A nice warm wight glow rather than a bright white, nice and cosey.

Since we changed our van I miss the option of tv point in 2 places plus surround sound loud speakers. . The small portable tv sound is not very good.
Unless you already have these. Or don't watch tv or DVDs.

What about: no more fancy spec changes, but better built vans that are actually worth the money paid for them?
Does your microwave, Alde heating, electric roof vent, etc., really make up for the unscheduled shower facility for items left on the front window sill?

Too true Bertie,  The motor industry has done it, you hardly ever see a rusty car these days so why do we put up with poor build quality and still have water ingress problems? Let's get the basics right before we get bamboozled by the add-ons.

I am on the same road although a bit behind AGS.

We still have a bit of delamination on the rear wall and I am working on that at the moment.

I have a list of the jobs that need done that I can do myself.
Also a list of things I need to buy like new tyres, a new battery and a motor mover.

I have had the van serviced and I have repaired everything that was wrong on that score.
I have also towed it from the storage yard where I bought it to my garage, about 50 miles, and it towed like a dream.

I have stripped out the bunk beds and will change these to one slightly wider single bed.

Overall it should be all A1 and ready for use by the spring and ofcourse I will be far too busy working on the van to do anything in the house!!!!!

I want to fit 3 more draws under our kitchen worktop between the fridge and cooker on our 2008 Sprite Alpine 4. I will lose the open storage area but think that draws will be more useful. Im just not sure where I will get the draws from. Have surfed internet for some and tried a dealer but to no avail.

Well when the time comes for me to get a caravan, first job will be to replace the 3 way fridge with a built in compressor fridge, second job will be to fit Air-Con unit under seat type not roof mounted.

That will get me upto spec for summers in the South of France.

Our last caravan had a compressor fridge.

While they have their place, especially if you are off EHU and relying on Solar Panels, I would not have another one.

They are noisy and I much prefer the peace and quiet of my present 3-way fridge.

But if you do go down the compressor road, don't forget your ear plugs.

Hi Lobey.
That does seem odd, especially as a compressor fridge is fitted as standard in the VW California and other high end Marques.

We have a Waeco CF25 and Mobicool C40 both compressor fridge/freezers for use in the tent, and they have never kept us awake.

I don't think it is by chance that most compression fridges are not housed in bedrooms nor that most bedrooms are a fair bit away from the kitchens where such units are housed.

Our Sprintaway Caravan came with a Waeco Compression Fridge and while it did have its good points, it was also noisy and no amount of rubber mounting could completely eliminate the vibrations from it.

In reality, unless that type of fridge is well away from the sleeping area (like at the opposite end of a large caravan) forget it.

If these things really were as wonderful as the adverts say they are, they would be a standard fitting on most British and Continental vans.

Hi Lobey, I think the main reason why Compressor fridges are not fitted as standard in caravans is the cost, and the fact that a 3 way will suffice for UK and Northern Europe climates.

Also many folk hire proper domestic type fridges whilst on campsites in the South of France, which to me says that most 3 way fridge's cant stand the heat.

And for the record compressor fridges really are as good as they claim, and work far better than any 3 way or Thermoelectric unit when down in the South of France during summer.

It says to me that domestic ones are cheaper to buy for the campsite. Oh and my 3 way fridge copes very well with the heat
