How it can be legal to literally send naked flames up into the sky, beggars belief. At least fireworks 'explode' (usually) before they hit the ground.

there was a photo in a cc magazine not too long ago with a rocket -firework- lodged in the roof of someones caravan .it had penetrated straight through!!!
I was worried about that on bonfire night but this is terrible.
I hope they get sorted insurance wise without too much trouble

Can anyone explain to me, whose insurance pays for this, bearing in mind that the vans were not being stored in accordance with the advice from the Fire Service, which recommends a minimum separation distance!

It's obviously not known yet if Chinese lanterns were involved but they have already been banned in some European countries including Germany. It's always seemed strange to me to let an incendiary device float into the sky without having any control over where or what it lands on. Just asking for trouble!

The 'advice' from the fire service will apply to occupied caravans in relation to campsite public liability insurance not stored caravans. The caravan owners will claim on their insurances & should have no trouble getting payouts. The storage yard will have a clause in their t&c's absolving themselves of responsibility for such incidents.

What a mess....upsetting as to what damage fire can cause. I too hope everyone was insured, but no doubt most will be out of pocket in some way.

I think that those Chinese lanterns should be banned regardless of whether they caused the fire or not. Sad for those people who have lost their caravans plus the possessions inside the caravan.
If it was a Chinese lantern then those who set them off should be held accountable. Wasn't there a big fire outside Birmingham recently where it was suspected that a Chinese lantern started it.

Just goes to show, insurance is needed how ever cheap your van, its not just the cost of replacing the unit but everything else that is inside. I feel sorry for all of these owners, lets hope their insurances are quick at paying out so they can get mobile again.

So many memories, hopes & dreams destroyed in one fell swoop, a graphic reminder of just how devastating fire can be. One of the reasons for the new blue & white pegs on all C C sites this year.
