Hi everyone, We are collecting our first brand new caravan (teensy bit excited!) soon and have a daft question. Before we use it to we need to Puriclean the water system? Or is it unnecessary as it's brand new? Also it's got a funny filter thingy which is new territory for us. We'll Puriclean the aquaroll at home but when we collect the caravan we plan to go straight from the dealer to a nearby site for a couple of days, just to make sure everything's ok. It would be a bit of a faff to do the pipes on-site but we could if we have to. Do we?
Thanks in advance.

Ask yourself this> Was it tested at the factory if so is water still in the system? Would you drink out of a glass you had bought at a shop without washing it?
Nuff said I think, enjoy your new van!

Congrats on the new van,we had a new van last year and we flushed out the water system just to make sure,it should be free of bits if the dealer has done a proper pdi and checked the water system
moppetsdad's answer just about sums it up really and couldn't agree more and if I were fortunate enough to buy a brand new caravan I would sterilise the system anyway disregards the fact that it's new. When brand new caravans have been standing on display at a dealers awaiting a sale it has been known for people to view inside and then secretly let their kids use the toilet, so bearing this in mind I wouldn't take the chance as a new caravan may not be always be totally new and unused as you may think.
If you sterilise the system then remove the filter first, if you do not you will destroy the filter and have to buy another one.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Our first caravan had a water filter and this one don't and agree that they are more trouble than they are worth. They get frozen during cold weather, clogged up during the summer and an unnecessary expense to replace every year.
At least flush it through with one good aqua roll if not puri clean otherwise it might taste a bit odd and it's better to be safe than sorry with your water source.

We flush it through anyway and don't drink it. Same as John tea tastes better from a separate water container!
Agreed ..seperate water container for the vital brew for us
Thanks guys, you have confirmed what I thought and we'll definitely run some Puriclean through. Like most of you, we don't use the water to drink but do use it for teeth cleaning and pot washing so don't want any nasty bacteria in there.
Our present caravan had a standard Truma filter which we removed and happily managed without but the new one has got an in-line one. Has anyone had any experience of removing one of these? Is there usually enough hose to join up again or will we need a connecting bit?
