I have a twin axel unit,That costs £165,i did have it done every year but now i have it done every 2 years. If you are going to europe it will need an upto date service or you wont get on sites.I stay in uk so dont matter.
Depending on when you need a service, Check out locally that servicing might be offered half price during winter months. Catterick caravans were doing a service for £99 last year in January. Also don't be afraid to ask for a "winter discount" you can only try.
I have never been asked for service records to access a site nor for insurance or any other purpose.
I understand it is necessary to get a service to protect a warranty on a new caravan but beyond that I would question the need for an annual service. The average van may be used for 10 - 20% of the days per year if not less. It will travel probably less than 2000 miles per year.
Not a lot of wear and tear there.
A chassis service every other year cost me about £100.
A chassis service on an older caravan requires wheelbearing removal, repacking with grease & new seals as well as brake clean/check/adjust, hub nut just requires new split pin. More modern caravans have sealed for life bearings but need to have new hub nuts fitted after hub removal & tighten to correct torque.
A workshop should only charge £80+parts for chassis service. For an older caravan a small trailer/caravan workshop or mobile fitter may do a better/cheaper job than a large caravan main dealer workshop.
Every 2yrs is sufficient for service once warranty has expired & checking of interior appliances can be diy checked by user on an ongoing basis, as can bodywork for water ingress.
Just had mine serviced it's a Bailey Ranger two birth and it only cost me £100 for the full service but I had to wait a while to get it in the engineer was very busy thats why I had to wait he has been booked up for quite a long time and he did a great job in and out in the same day.

I bet if anything happened and an insurance claim were to result the insurance company would ask 'was the van serviced in line with the manufacturers recommendations?'
Our van manufacturer recommends an annual service in the handbook.

Well would it? Has anybody who has claimed had this?

Do they do this when claiming for a car or any other vehicle or trailer ? I think not.

Isn't it similar to an MOT on a car, which is required to get car insurance. It may not be requested but if say, your van suffered damage due to a gas leak, and it had not been serviced for several years, would the insurance pay out? Food for thought.
I have been on loads of sites all over the place,I used to be a member of the caravan club and have used many of there sites but I have never ever been asked if I have had my van serviced I do have it serviced every year for our own safety and I carry the service sheets with me just in case someone needs to see it.Ian
